Are drones allowed at Peterskill? |
|

annoying. |
|

Only if it is acceptable for me to stand next to you making a very loud, piercing, whining noise while you are trying to enjoy the outdoors |

Just curious if PIPC or NYS has any restrictions regarding drone use. Just to clarify, I am in the "ban them near climbing walls if not everywhere" chorus. |

Clearly states they are prohibited on their website. |

I was at Bunkbed Wall on Sat. and there was a party toproping the arete while I was leading the short routes next to it. They had a drone hovering 10' off the cliff that sounded like a leaf-blower in my ear. Fortunately the routes are so short I could communicate with my belayer, but it was very distracting as I kept looking over my shoulder to see if they were maneuvering it behind me (they weren't, but it sounded like it was right behind me). I didn't say anything as I wasn't sure if it was allowed or not, and we ended up moving farther down the wall. If it had been the Trapps I would have asked them to stop. |

The use of drones is prohibited at Minnewaska State Park Preserve. Amplified music is prohibited throughout the park preserve. |

There was one operating along the Trapps a few weeks ago. Quiet Tuesday afternoon... until the drone operator decided to inspect us at our belay. To his/her credit, I sort of waved it off with my hand, and the drone moved off. |

Mohonk does allow drones by permit use only. |

JSH -- thanks for the advice. As it happens, I sent an e-mail the next day, not complaining, but thinking that they would like to know about it given their policy and permit system. No response yet, though I was not really expecting one. But that was my thought exactly -- that they would like a report in either case. As I said, I waved it off and it went away. The operator did not have to do that, I guess, but I would really rather enjoy the solitude up there and concentrate on the climbing. |

It's only illegal if you get caught. |

I love that every climber in that drone vid is on top rope. Lame in every respect. |
