Hi everyone. I was thinking of climbing the sunshine route on Mt Hood this week. I was wondering what the current conditions are—does it go (bergshrund-wise) & is it all snow (or ice in August)? Thanks—any info (or even a photo...) appreciated!
Rockfall on Hood is pretty wicked. Personally I stay off the mountain between midsummer and the winter freeze. That's just me though, others do go up occasionally. Not sure specifically about Sunshine right now but I've seen stuff tumble down it in the late spring.
Also the descent down Sunshine sucks, so you'd want to go down the south route, which also sucks in late summer.

Thanks for the info. As expected in August, the rock and ice fall was problematic. We turned around at about 10K, just before having to traverse below Horseshoe Rock, which wasn't safe--plus the upper bergshrund did not look readily passable, and the back-up traverse was icy. Anyway, we expected this and had a good day otherwise--one can get up to where we were between the rock and icefall risk/runnels, and the cooked-out Eliot glacier was actual fun to walk up. Anyway--camping at Cloud Gap and Snow Dome were quite nice.
