Visiting Yosemite w/ family - would love to sneak off for some pitches!

Hey everyone,

I’ll be staying in Yosemite with my family for about a week (8/7-8/12) and will be bringing my personal gear and probably a light rack.  I know the valley will be hot, but I’d be down to chase shade in the morning cragging or maybe running up a quick moderate multipitch or two.  We’re staying on the west side of Yosemite (Oakhurst) so Tuolumne probably will be harder.  I’m usually solid leading up to around 5.8/5.9 on gear, but it’ll be my first time in Yosemite so I’ll probably want to start conservatively.  Also totally cool to follow you up something harder.  Bonus points if anyone wants to thrash up an offwidth or two...!  Anyways, if anyone’s available and wants to climb this week, hit me up on PM or Three one two, nine one two-thirteen fifty-nine.  Cheers!

Start with the Classics:  "Jack" &"Pat" Pinnacles .  "Nutcracker" . "Bishop's Terrace, Church Bowl T . The Grack

If you insist on trying some Wide?   "The Elevator Shaft" (I think thats what its called?)

Woohoo! Fresno Dome is right near Oakhurst, a little higher than the Valley, and full of moderates too!

it’ll be my first time in Yosemite 

It will be awesome! Early morning is cool, so valley climbing is fine. From like dawn to 10AM is really good. 

Swan slabs has easy climbs and approach, even a few top ropes. At Church Bowl Bishops terrace is classic 1-2 pitch 5.8 with a 5 minute "approach". Family can hang out by the base and explore.

For solo fun you could solo aid climb the Le Conte boulder if you want to learn how to aid. Right next to the road, super steep bolts. You could also hike up the approach to Leaning Tower. Really cool exposed spot.

For family fun 1. hike up to the base of pine line on El Cap (it's also the standard start to the Nose). Easy 20 minute hike to an awesome platform to have lunch and watch any climbers crazy enough to climb in the heat. 2. Float down the river (if it's open). They rent rafts or you can usually buy and float on anything like a tube, or cheap raft. Probably the best family thing to do in the Valley. 3. Stop at tunnel view for pictures. 4. Hike to the bottom of Bridalveil falls. 5. Hike to the bottom of Yosemite falls. 6. Stop and soak your feet or fill up water bottles at Fern Spring. Right on the road when you loop around the west end of the valley.

Lots of other stuff to do too. Rent bikes and ride around the valley. Lots of good hikes. Visitor Center/Indian Museum/Ansel Adams gallery
