Anyone head up to do the linkup this past weekend? How was it?

Any up dates on this subject would be appreciated

Still a pretty big snow patch on Tenaya as of July 21 (Sunday). Probably mid-August before it is suitable for climbing.

Thanks nikhilm

The Tenaya snow patch isn't actually on the route at all, and I don't think it's in a place where it would fall on the route. We did Tenaya and Matthes last weekend and had no issues with snow. There's a big field on the north side of the pass from Matthes to Cathedral near Bud lake, but you can get down the whole thing on dry ground. The mosquitoes are real bad, though... incentive to keep moving fast!

Seem to be getting some mixed signals here. Anyone else go up recently have some opinions on the snowfield?

The problem isn't having to go over snow, the problem is the snow going over you and wiping you off the face of tenaya when it eventually lets go and tumbles down.

John Clark: Richard Randall says "I don't think it's in a place where it would fall on the route." Do we have a third opinion?

I wanted to do the route a few days ago, but after scoping it out closely we ultimately decided against it. But I'm also pretty risk averse when it comes to long routes like that. The irony being that we did Conness instead and almost got electrocuted on the descent.

I did Tenaya on Sunday. I just accepted the risk of the snow. The approach is a bit overgrown, and very wet. It took a bit to find the right way to cross the water once we were on the lower slabs. After that it was smooth sailing, well except the bugs... holy crap we got eaten! The descent was the worst for bugs. Once off the slab and into the forest the feeding frenzy began.

The snow patch is small and off to the side now. Did the link-up on Saturday morning and didn't hit any other snow or wet climbing. If you move fast, the mosquitoes can't catch you. Also, anyone know what a good C2C time is for the solo link-up?

I know people that have done it in about 8 hours. Seems like taking a few hours off that would be easy for someone in good shape. The total distance, I believe, is about 12 miles so I'd compare the linkup to a particularly hilly trail run to get an idea of the fastest expected time (2-3 hrs).

It's probably going to take me 12 hours or so but I'm elderly.

Climbed Tenaya twice (once solo once simul) a few weeks ago and the snow field was totally off route and didn't feel threatening at all.

Can anyone provide solid beta on the shuttle from Cathedral Trailhead to Tenaya lake?  It looks like it only runs until 6pm but I read on here somewhere that it runs until 7pm https://www.nps.gov/yose/planyourvisit/tmbus.htm  It also looks like its $10 per day and you have to buy a paper ticket at a park desk.  https://www.travelyosemite.com/discover/travel-tips/shuttles/

How do you get back to Tenaya from Cathedral trailhead?  Not sure we'll be done by 6pm.

I've hitchhiked every time, no problem.

Park at Dozier Dome, hike to Tenaya, descend Cathedral via slabs by Eichorn and take Cathedral Lakes trail back to Dozier slab descent.

How long (time/distance) is the descent from cathedral to the car by dozier? Wouldn't mind taking some time off my TMC Linkup and keep it totally leg powered. I currently take about 35-40 minutes to get from the top of cathedral to the cathedral parking, then a surprisingly consistent 15 minutes to hitchhike back to tenaya.

it took us 3 hrs from the start of cathedral to climb, descend, and hike back to the car. I'm sure it can be done much faster, we were just cruising. I think it's about the same time/distance as the return to cathedral trailhead, similar anyways.

Also, that is ridiculously fast.
