That is a great pitch!

Thanks for the beta everybody! First shuteye trip was generally successful. Attempted the Cascadel approach to big sleep at ~2am late Friday night/early Saturday morning and, while I was absolutely on the right road, got stopped about 0.4 miles before the turn off for Whisky Falls from the “snowmobiling” road due to an extremely muddy and deep section of the forest service road. Ended up just pulling off before that and hanging it up for the night. Had to deproach back to minarets road and do the other approach, which worked splendidly. Two HOT days at big sleep with some super fun climbing on voodoo and croc domes. Very cool crag and I look forward to returning in cooler temps!

I'm surprised you got stuck. I was on that road on Saturday with my Subaru, no problem and no mud. I think maybe you were not on the correct road

I took this approach up, taking the left-most turn at the T-intersection where there are signs/camping for the OHV area. I got stopped right at the leftward bank that I've pointed out with the arrow. Should I have gone straight through at the OHV instead of hanging a hard left? I can't seem to think of where else I could have gotten off route but it's definitely a maze up there so who knows!

Any reports about getting up to High Eagle/Shangri-la Area? I got up to 2wd camp with my Subaru the past few years with much struggle and lots of road maintenance, but don't feel like shoveling rocks again for 3 hours (or hours hiking, or climbing at the other areas).

If you can reach the Sand Creek crossing easily, it should be only 1 mile hiking up the road to Little Shuteye Pass and the trails for Shangri-La and High Eagle (like 30 minutes).
If you can't reach Sand Creek, then yeah, it could take awhile.

Unfortunately the last time I was there (2WD camp) was in 2013 during a "government shutdown", so I don't know the current state of the road.

Thanks for the map and information. You know anything about Grey/Red Eagle road conditions and access?

Getting up to 2WD camp is (fairly easily) possible with a stock Subaru forester, I wouldn't attempt to go that far with anything lower clearance however.

Anybody been up to High Eagle recently? How's the last bit up to Friend Rock these days?

i was up there around memorial weekend.  the last 100 yards before friend camp was pretty rough, but there were some surprising vehicles up there.  either mad skills, ignorant bliss, or vehicle torturers.  not sure which!

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
