Has anyone driven on it? How do the approaches look? Possible to park on the side of the road and get to some of the climbs? |
|
|
Also has anyone biked on it? Conditions OK? |
|

Snow. Lots of snow. |

I feel like approach to climbs would be easy. Parking on sides is totally doable. There's still some snow on the higher up areas off the side of the road, approx 5 feet or so from the parking spots, but you could probably do this approach with a quality pair of flip flops and hope you don't post hole in. |

Andrew, any sense how deep the snow is? I ask because I'll likely be heading up there in about 3 weeks to (try to) do some backpacking with my kids. I won't bother if it still looks pretty buried, though the plan is to hike to Glen Aulin, which is a drop in elevation. |

It still looked around 4 feet still maybe at some spots, but nothing some hiking boots wouldn't handle. I will be going through Tioga again to climb in the valley either next week or the weekend of the 20th, tentatively, so I can always update this thread / email you when more time has passed. I would also encourage you to check out Tahoe / Bowman Valley / Emerald pools for some backpacking as well, as they are completely clear and super beautiful this time of year. Just be mindful of the rivers, they are taking people out lately with all the snowmelt water rushing down. |

We climbed TM two years ago during the 4th, under similar snow conditions. Sunny south facing was fine, other aspects not so much. I'm sure people will be hiking through the snow to do Cathedral. We hiked in (two years ago) to check out Dozier and there was snow all along the base, most routes running with water, and was able to go through a snow tunnel to get on one route. Long, snowy, slippery approach too. |

Nice. Think I may camp outside the park and just drive in to do some climbs this weekend. |
