Anyone been up 6s66 (the road to Shuteye Pass trail off Mammoth Pool road) to get up to Fallen Eagle, Grey Eagle, or Minerva lately? We're headed there this weekend and hoping our 2wd transit connect van can make it back there. Thanks for any beta.

6S66 Road is passable with a Subaru Outback. I would suggest at least 7-8" of clearance, I have no clue if a Transit can make it.
The road is bushy, you will get scratched paint, I personally don't care about such things BYMMV.
The fork that leads uphill requires a real 4WD, I won't bring my Outback up and just walk the last (0.5 mile?) or so to the campsite and main trailhead to the Red zone.
There was some heavy rain the past couple of days, so this may have altered things since I was last up there.
Good luck!

Hi All, thinking about heading up to Shuteye for the first time the weekend of June 15.  Anybody been up this season and know what the conditions are like?  Snowy approaches? Skeeters?

Hi, yes live there! Big place 9 miles long 4 miles wide, need to pick an area vocus on that morning on to the next area, takes years to know it all!! If your new to the area and like some cracks and sport climbs go to Big Sleep Area climb on the Crocadile Dome! and The Voo Doo Dome, good camping (Free) and road open good luck happy climbing Mike A.

'Road open' usually comes with a caveat.

Road clear on Whiskey falls side!!! Cleared a couple weeks ago!

We drove a Honda Element up 6s66 and it was fine (weekend of 6/15). Some big ruts on the side of the road but easy enough to avoid. The 2WD camp at the end of the road is very close to the 4WD camp (2 min walk?) and doesn’t really add to the approach. Lots of mosquitos and ants at camp.

That being said, the approach to Electric Eagle from 6s66 is a SLOG. This was our first time approaching from there and took us at least 2-hours. The approach is well cairned but up-hill and hot in the sun. No snow.
Electric Eagle is in the sun until 2pm or so. There is also running water near the base.
I wouldn’t approach from 6s66 again.

Labor Day my 4x4 club, LA County Trailcrew ,  cleared the whiskey falls trail all the way to big sleep. It was a 9 hour day of chainsawing and snow wheeling with chains.

Now that the snow is melting big sleep should be free assuming snow has melted.

I was up at Big Sleep 2 weeks ago, the snow is all gone, I was able to drive up in a Subaru

We went to High Eagle this past weekend.  Roads are clear.  Had to drive over one snowbank a short ways into the dirt road, but it's likely melted out by now.  Parked about 0.8 miles from The Talon, in between two Subarus that had made it that far.  Beyond that there was a really muddy corner, which you'd need a true off road vehicle to make it through without getting stuck.  Scenery was gorgeous, only climbed a bit on the Talon, which was great, but I totally want to go back and get some real climbing in!

CAUTION!!!! Crocodile Dome, Croc Rock 10a. Climbed on 6/21/19, 4th bolt is in bad shape.  Bolt spins in its hole.

Was up at Chilkoot Lake and Big Sleep area this week (6/24 and 6/27, respectively). I accessed both with a relatively low-clearance Hyundai Accent. We weren't able to get to the standard parking areas for either, but we got pretty close.

Chilkoot Lake was fine up to the Cold Springs Summit lookout turnoff. Made it a bit up the dirt road before deciding to park due to mud. Added ~0.5mi hike to the standard 2WD parking lot approach.

Big Sleep was accessed via Whiskey Falls side, up 7S02M. Tons of ruts and holes, but with some fancy driving you can get around them in a low clearance vehicle. I wouldn't do it if there was rain recently. Also had to park it a bit early adding maybe ~0.5mi to the approach.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
