I heard from someone who was out there that it was a hiker, not a climber, with his son up in the Middle Earth area. They were off the main climbers trail wandering around and fell. Don't know any of the other details but they went down to the guy, called 911, and assisted until the helicopter came..
My climbing partner and I were up there and had just finished sending a route when a 16yo came and frantically asked for help, as his dad had fallen. We had to apply lifesaving techniques and call in for a medevac. Grateful for the years of training and an awesome climbing partner who was able to assist me while we waited for rescue. It’s kind of funny how the article portrays the heroic actions of 2 dozen first responders because in reality, it was my climbing partner, myself, and eventually a flight medic.

That's very fortunate that you two were around. The news article was based off the report from the fire department - I guess that didn't include any of those details.
How did he actually fall - was he hiking/scrambling as the earlier post mentioned?

It was that way in the only rescue I was involved with too.
