Thought the same exact thing.

That’s the place to file a police report. Someone who’s local and has evidence of physical property being stolen.

  1. Not a brand new user just accidently posted from a FB account. Lucas became involved within the community of folks in Boone who I've climbed with for a while now. Just felt the need to give my opinion since I've met the guy in person.

Jack, thanks for clarifying.

Lucas' instagram is live, though i imagine he'll take it down or otherwise hide it pretty soon. I've taken screen shots of the usernames of many of his climbing buddies. If anyone wants a list of instagram usernames to start a peer pressure campaign to shame him into doing the right thing, let me know.

Imo, forget internet shameing.

I think it's with fair certainty that we know he's a Boone, NC frequent visitor/local. Have the people at his local crag, the crags he goes to, the local climbing stores and the gym he goes to know his face and that this dude steals the gear of the climbing locals and on MP. Could be something like "did you hear on mountainproject that this dude *show his face to people* might steal your shit. If he's around don't leave your gear on the ground when you go climb cause he might steal your shit out of your pack." I REALLY think someone should let the local Boone NC climbing stores know this guy's face because I doubt he's only doing this to climbers. The shameing from the local community should provide the social shaming necessary for him to realize the consequences of his actions of stealing and push him towards how to live a better life. Without this, he will likely continue to lie, steal, and cheat people and businesses.

If that doesn't change his viewpoint and actions on stealing, he will sooner or later be caught by the cops, get his criminal charge brought down to a misdemeanor assuming he can pay for a lawyer, and if he continues still, he will get a felony and everyone that looks up a background check will know he's a thief. At that point his actions brought him to that end stage.

Maybe let some of the local climbing stores, especially the ma and pa shops, know this guy's face as he has a unverified (as in has not been charged and found guilty of in court) reputation for stealing climbing gear next time you're in Boone NC so they know to keep a slightly more careful eye and cautious approach to him entering their store.

to my knowledge he has already been banned from our local climbing gym

Hello! I run the gym here in Boone and had already banned this shitty excuse for a human before seeing this thread. He was banned for being a creep and making gym members and staff feel uncomfortable. A little later learned he stole from folks at a local crag, and now I see this. Boone is a small town and our community is a strong one. If he doesn't leave town, it wont be long until this all catches up to him.

Good to know that the local Boone community is aware of this guy and propensity to steal.

We totally get the seriousness of the allegations listed here in the thread, but please understand that we can't allow doxxing on the site. Just a big no-no. Thanks for understanding.

I met this guy at the end of March out at our local sport crag The Dump. He was climbing with a couple people then. He was walking around and climbing barefoot and complaining about having stuff stolen out of his truck recently (~mid March). What I found strange was that he had a pair of Chacos in his truck that he didn't wear up to the crag. Instead he chose to walk around barefoot. Who knows why. He claimed to not have any gear at that time and that everything was stolen during the break in.

All due respect - what definition of doxxing are you using to navigate?  Would you provide a link if it exists so we can read up?  Thanks.

MP Team - I'm not sure who you're accusing of doxxing here, but i find this to be a troubling response. For one, Lucas is not being doxxed... he has transacted with everyone here using his real name, so there's no real "uncovering" that's happening beyond helping people find other ways to contact the guy. I would argue the intent here is also clearly not malicious. People are just trying to get their money and gear back.

Beyond that, though, you have created a marketplace for people to buy and sell equipment and benefit from a TON of traffic coming to your various sites due to this FS forum, but have not implemented many requests for features that would reduce the likelihood of these sorts of scams. You've essentially washed your hands of any responsibility for what happens on your FS forum, which is understandable, but here you seem to be telling folks they cannot pursue those who perpetrate the scams. Can we get some additional clarity on what is and is not a "no-no" following scams of this sort? Nobody likes having to hunt down internet scammers, but they like being scammed even less. Where there's no rule of law (as appears to be the case on this site), you can expect folks will resort to whatever means they can to recover their goods. I think everyone here has kept it pretty civil, and many people (myself included) have discovered lots of info on this guy that has not been released or posted here.
