Hello, I’ll be taking a crevasse rescue program mid-June on Rainier. The classes run for 3 days but I was considering staying a few days longer either on Rainier or a surrounding peak. I have some technical ice background and a good deal of rock experience. With the exception of a short trip to Chamonix, I am a beginner when it comes to glaciated terrain. I’d like to spend as much time on glacier as possible, but being solo(after class is concluded) I’m obviously limited. I guess my question is, is there an area that anyone here would recommend I could continue to improve outside of the “classroom” in the area with minimal objective hazard? I’m aware of Mt. Adams. Hopefully this makes sense to someone. Any suggestions or info would be greatly appreciated.
A lot of the crevasse classes are on the Emmons Glacier. You could stay at Camp Sherman and go for the summit.

You could probably get one of your classmates to do something with. You might contact the instructors and give them a heads up about wanting to do something post-training. They could get the word out, or even perhaps climb with you.
