Anyone ever done this time of the year/lately & care to share what it's like? Worth it? Want to give it a go?

I haven't done it but it looks super interesting and I've wanted to for a while! I imagine it's pretty snowy and avy-prone right now though, especially with storms rolling in this weekend...maybe spring would be better? I am not an ultra experienced alpine/ice climber though so maybe someone else can chime in here.

It would be quite the approach for a kinda so so route.

I think the route would be in better conditions about the time the road opens to at least Summit Lake.

It's a great route when it comes into shape in May and early June. There are a hand full of easy to moderate mixed routes on the summit cap formation and when you can drive to the top it is only a 15-minute approach. Best to save this area for when the road opens in the spring and there has been some good melt-freeze cycles to consolidate the sugary continental snowpack.

I've done a few north face routes on Mt. Evans - like most other snow climbs they typically come into season in the spring, and stay until late spring/early summer depending on snowfall amount, how warm it is etc (April - June/July). Assuming you don't want to hike forever, you ought to consider waiting for the Mt. Evans road to open, which is usually around Memorial Day.

I've seen a lot of these types of routes change character dramatically depending on the season (Fall vs Spring). I suspect you will find nothing other than steep snow and some scrambling this spring.

I agree late spring/early summer is most fun for that route.

Spring it is! I figured it'd probably just be a long snowy suffer-fest with little-to-no ice right now, but seems like an interesting route so thanks for the input everyone!
