Place for new gear from both of the shows in Denver this year.

EDIT: anything from ISPO would fit here as well.

Any indication on how much the tools will cost

Lol I was so excited running around looking at everything (I was only there for one day) that I forgot to ask

$400 for a synthetic jacket seems excessive, even for Patagonia.

No. It's 15oz so not warm enough unless Plumafill is coated in pixie dust (it's not). A 1lb down jacket isn't even winter worthy warmth wise. Also too fragile with loose fill insulation and 10d fabric.

A Dually is $600 :-) Difference is it doesn't suck.

Obviously purely hypothetical gear nerding. I'm sure Patagonia's customary propaganda videos will convince everyone they can send the Slovak with this thing in their pack.

Definitely curious about those Grivel tools, wondering how they'll swing into hard ice being so light.

$420 for the Dark Machine, and $450 for the Dark Machine X. Apparently Grivel is still working on a handle wrap so this is not necessarily the finished product.

And Raf of the the Alpine Start does a great job covering some cool new stuff I haven't seen elsewhere:

In that alpine start link they cover the new update to the Phantom Tech that I'm excited for.

Is the macropuff replacing the hyperpuff-but costing $100 more?

At that price-the arc’teryx kappa is a much, much better deal with a lot more features

I didn't think so, either. Especially in the video it looks unsubstantial.

That's what I was wondering. I hope not

Anyone else get spyware warnings when they try to go to this site?  Anyone know what that's all about?

I had no issues with spyware. Maybe skip the link and just Google the website?

You read my mind.  How anyone who climbs in the winter could find this thing belay worthy, ie: warm enough for static activity in windy temperatures below 25ºF or so, blows my mind.

Patagonia, even though they make fantastic gear, will have promo videos later this summer with sponsored athletes in the best shape of their lives, climbing in high alpine with action-Jackson shots of them "warm and toasty" in their 130/90 gram synthetic belay jacket.  I second your motion,  I don't buy it!

I'm surprised nobody's mentioned the new Phantom Techs coming next season!  100 grams in weight savings, along with an additional Aerogel insulation and a more durable sole?! Bingo!

2nd!

Are they full of magic??  And they are cheaper.   The flimsy sole was definitely a con if you had any sort of approach on rock or dirt.   I’m excited they sound sweeeeet.
Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
