Hi, wondering if anyone will be down in Patagonia this season? El chalten, Tierra del Fuego, Calle cochamo? Interested in rock mostly.

Hi Alex (and Will), being from Patagonia myself I'll leave you here some info that might be helpful...

If you're interested in rock climbing mostly...you'd be better off heading to 1) Bariloche (BCH), 2) Valle Cochamo (VCO) or Chalten (CHT). BCH and VCO are on North Patagonia (ie milder weather), with BCH on Arg side of the andes range and VCO on Chilean side. CHT is much further south (some 600miles), so weather gets much harsher, though if you wanna go for the big challenges that's the place to go.
On the other hand, Ushuaia (on the Tierra del Fuego "state" you mentioned) is at the southernmost tip of Patagonia (so extra 700miles further south from CHT), and even tho it's a beautiful and mostly pristine terrain, it's not a great place for rock climbing. Rock is mostly shale that tends to be loose (guess it's what you call chossy in english), so very few vertical walls and quite difficult to protect. The area is much more suited for winter ice and mix climbing (sort of Scotland mountains). Nevertheless the place is stunning and has some sort of magic for being remote and located at the very end of the continent (guess same as Alaska or Yukon for you guys up there). And there are lots of serious hiking and many "small" alpine routes (4000 ft ish vertical gain, doable in 1 day, with 1-3 pitches of the crappy rock at the very end).

Now living in the big city and not sure if I´ll be coming down this summer (ur winter), but keen to point you out in the right direction if needed...
Hope this helps..

Hola climbers,

I am strongly going down to Chile as well, in Cochamo beginning Mid December.  Hoping to get on some great rock and do some long routes.  I'm also looking for  partners.  I will be there for only one week most likely.  I have a lot of experience climbing trad and am a safe belayer.

Cheers!

Looking for partners for El Chalten and Cochamo. I will be there from beginning of January through end of February. Objectives in El Chalten are Austriaca on De L’s and Chiaro Di Luna on Saint Exupery. Hit me up!
