Alexander's is in incredibly fat (1st thru 3rd are fatter than I have ever seen) until the 4th pitch, which has no ice on it whatsoever as of this last weekend. Approaching anything in that cirque is going to be a huge effort for the next 7-10 days though. Lot of snow. Webcam of Long's right now is epic. 0 visibility, 18 degrees at trailhead, 100% humidity, 18cm of snowfall expected just today, and sustained 30-60mph winds for the next 6-7 days. Woof.

thanks Alex. Yes I figured that new snow is going to be a pain for a little while. But it should help things form in the long run ...

November and early December are often the best time to visit the ice routes in Silverton’s Eureka Canyon and South Mineral Creek (if the ice is in) because the avvy danger is usually manageable before the big snowfalls come.  Does anyone know if the ice in these areas is in?   Like Stairway to Heaven?  Is the ice in Mineral Creek in?  Are the areas still accessible or has there already been a lot of snow?  Is Mineral Creek still driveable back to say Camground Couloir?

M4 Chimney in Officer's Gulch (climbers right of Three Tiers). Lots of snow and very crappy ice underneath, which made this one feel harder than the grade. Fought for every hold and decent piece of pro. Bailed after p1 due to conditions, but still had a fun time. Three Tiers looked completely snow covered and the Shroud is just starting to form.

Took a walk to Moffit yesterday. Still has a ways to go.  For who ever is farming everything on the left side looks froze up.

in re Moffat I was up there a couple years ago early winter and ran into the farmer. He had been away in Cuba, may be that he makes a yearly trip away around this time of year. When I was up there everything was frozen solid and I spent several hours with him digging around in the snow trying to break up the ice in the pipes to no avail. May require some group love to get/keep her going. If you find a farmer help em out and/or buy em a beer!

I was up at Moffat Saturday to take a peak at the ice.  When we came down we went by this cabin.  It had been broken into with widows broke on both sides.  The idiots that broke in then just left the storm windows off.  My son and I put them back on as best we could as it was snowing and blowing about 40mph.  They seemed to stay on but we did not have anything to really secure it with.  If anyone knows whos cabin it is they might want to go secure the storm windows better.  It is right by where you cross the creek to go to the ice climb. I had forgotten about it until I saw this picture of it when going through some photos this morning.

Since there are similar threads for folks in other states I suggest adding "Colorado" to the post title.

While it's sorted by the forum, many folks (myself included) only ever check the front page of MP.

The ice farmer has put in a lot of work diverting water. Impressive effort.
It’s hard to figure out why he is building the west column when the east column, from seasons past, was twenty feet higher.
Either way, Moffat has a long way to go. Let’s give it love by leaving it alone, and letting it grow.

Not quite correct... the reason it isn’t farmed anymore has more to do with changes up top at the platform. The construction that was done killed the original water flow and it would take serious plumbing to try to make it happen again. SC will only be as good as Mother Nature allows from now on...

So what would it take to get farming again? Three or four motivated Joe's could fix this in a few days next fall.
