In Yosemite for the night hoping to get into a campsite with a group. Everythings full, we are two tents or two two cars if you can fit us!

It was and is totally worth just going for it, I just show up  to new places figure it out and as long I get on some rock it doesnt really matter to me haha. I might be a noob but hey Im still doing it and im doing it the best I can

How late in the day can I get to the camp 4 kiosk during the week , and on weekends to get a camp spot in October?

It seemed like camp 4 was a free for all, cops raiding the place kicking ppl out, spots were just all on top of eachother, met a few ppl who just walked out and camped illegally instead. Its way busier than normall for the time of year cause the fires prevented ppl from visiting. Just call the park and ask, im no authority on these things lol

for some reason, they decided to not staff the kiosk like they usually do and instead went into winter mode early. meaning self-registration. 

I’ve never self registered at camp 4. How does that work?

pretty poorly...it's basically an honor system.  As long as you have space in a bear box, you can stay in the site.  Rangers come around to randomly check and maintain a slight bit of order, but it's basically a free for all.

They do have a new sign posted staying "no more campers - 180 fine".  Doubt it's deterring most however....

Is the overflow parking at Yosemite lodge across the street
