Hello, as the Admin for Illinois, I am wanting the Mississippi Palisades page to be updated with photos of the routes and people climbing there. If possible, can those who have climbed there post their personal photos. This overall will greatly improve the page abd make it better. Thanks

Hi Mason, Bill Collett here, co-author of the Palisades guide. Fill me in on plans to scan the guide. I and a lot of climbers are frustrated with the publishing company for not producing more books. So, at this time, I'm likely to turn a blind eye to any reproductions for climbing purposes only. Gary and I have talked about trying to make an online copy for the Mississippi Palisades. But, lack the tech know how. We are looking for some energetic climber who might want to do this. The original guide was never a money maker, it did buy a few pizzas in town. Have a lot of historical info....not in the guide.....let me know if someone wants to tie up for this....thanks Bill

Hey Bill,

Thanks for your input. Just wanted to say that I stand by Mountain Projects rule of scanning and uploading guidebook info to the site is not allowed. But, I do want to overhaul the Mississippi Palisades page. I want Re- model it after Pere Marquette or Giant City’s page. All in all, I want to make the Mountain project page as good if a resource as possible. So, if interested, I would love your help in doing so. Let me know if you interested in helping.

Here is a little teaser for everyone. I do plan to either enter every climb or put a link on the palisades page so everyone can view it.null

Dave and Mason, I'm actually new to this site, if there is any info I can provide, I would be happy to do so.

Mason, use some caution, Dave has some guidelines to follow, the guide book was a lot of work, and is still under copyright.
Someday if an update can be made and published, I'm hoping guys like you can be apart of that. Should that ever happen, requests to take down any scans may happen. You'll help promote sales of the guide, and profits can be donated to sites like this or the Palisades.  Agreed?

(Let's hope a new guide is published someday!  Or App???)

The Mississippi Palisades had the reputation of being the most friendly place to climb.....I hope the tradition continues. Bill

Bill, do you any of the source material for the guide in digital format? I'd gladly pay to get my hands on good beta for the Palisades! (You own the copyright, correct?)

As both an engineer (who holds patents) and as a photographer, I have the utmost respect for others' intellectual property, and I'm happy paying for content.

Thanks for the work you're putting into this, guys. I haven't climbed at the Palisades (only have visited once), but am definitely interested in making a trip out there. Looking forward to the updates.

Thanks Andrew, is there anyway we can contact off line?

As the copyright holder, let me check into seeing if some routes, descriptions, etc. can be listed for climbers.

This is great! I’m psyched to finally get some help in redesigning the Mississippi Palisades page. My only request is that we model it off of Pere Marquette’s mountain project page.

Thanks Mason for the positive response, i was a little worried i would have to confiscate your beiners!

On a happy note to all viewers, permission has been granted to this site to scan all of the guidebook maps which show the location of climbs, and ratings.

With the guide currently not in print, climbers should have this basic information to have and enjoyable experience.

Andrew K. Has volunteered to do this, they should be up shortly.

I've spent too much time canoeing, I'll have to dig out my climbing gear and embarrass myself.
Look forward to meeting many of at the Palisades someday.

Hey everyone,

I think I have secured a scanner and will begin to upload as soon as it arrives.

Mason, the maps have been scanned and uploaded, with Bill's permission, and the routes have been added to the database.

What we need now is for someone to confirm locations and approach beta, and take pics of the individual walls. I'd happily bring my GPS and camera out there to do it myself, but it's looking like I won't get out to the Palisades until some time next year.

Any volunteers?
