Linville question

There is a small face up at two o'clock to the right from the amphitheatre when looking from the river.  Didn't find anything listed here, anyone poked around that feature?  Access would probably be best on the right from the main trail after the amp trail just before you descend going towards shortoff.

Possibly referring to Reggae Wall?  

About the same size, but no, that's on the NC wall.  Think much higher (300ft) and to the right of the mummy butress.

At least that's where I thought Reggae wall was, but I'm not an expert for the area, just a big fan.

Thanks for that pic, what I'm asking about is on the top above where you labelled reggae wall, the last wall near the peak.  In your pic it looks twice as high as reggae...

I got my info on the reggae wall from an internet photo someone labelled taken from wiseman's view.  They have it on the NC wall above and right from bumblebee buttress, but I'm questioning the credibility of that at the moment.

ya I question that credibility as well, mine came from the Thomas Kelly guide to NC.  The Pic I took from a climb opposite the amp.  The Daddy is slightly off in my pic just FYI, I'm just too lazy to fix it at this point and it is a general guide to the area not suppose to be super specific

PS when you are ready you should go up to that feature and explore, maybe put up some new routes?

The pic above is accurate. The reggae wall is small but steep and is essentially the left end of that large cliff band; the right (tall) side has no documented routes.

I've always wondered about the cliff you're asking about but have never been to it. I also know some prominent linville first ascensionists who have never been. I'm convinced it's too low angle and bushy but could certainly be wrong. Let us know if you find out.

I'm pretty sure I know where you're referring to. If so, then I have explored up there and put up a handful of routes. All were ground up on gear, I just never got around to installing an anchor/rap station. That place got pretty toasted during the last fire (and actually burnt up one of the trees I use to rap from). 

Thanks for the replies, plan on getting there when the gate opens.  I like the idea of bypassing the hike through the amp wash with comparable views.

Any idea as to when the gate does open? Any chance it’ll open by mid March?

I seem to remember it usually opening the first weekend in April.

Finally got a chance to look, tried bushwhacking from the campsite just past the amp trail.  I was planning on following the ridge right to it, too thick for a one day attempt.  Next time I'll try to find the spur off the amp trail and go that way.  Might have to be a multiple day trip with some help...any takers?

If my climbing calendar this fall wasn't already straining my relationship, I'd totally be down for some adventure, Walter...keep us posted if you make it there!

Exploring an area described above.  About 100' tall face above and to the right of reggae wall in the pic above.  PM me if interested.

Made it there this morning.  Went  off route from the amp ascent trail to get there.  Would like to say it was worth it, it is for bush wackers but not climbers.  The face was varied and loose rock everywhere.  I wouldn't develop it, might find one or two short routes, but then right there is the amp for the same investment.  Wish it turned out better...

Don't be discouraged, there's plenty of quality rock elsewhere in the Gorge for those willing to suffer a bit.
