Hey all,
I would like some clarification on the lesser traveled routes on the Monk at Camelback. I was recently scoping out the Monk's Ass, and got very confused looking at the east face of the Monk. Starting at the Monk's Chin, going climbers right we have:
Monk's Chin bolt ladder Sparse bolt line up the arete, older 5 piece bolts-- is this the SE Corner? Does it start off the boulder, or down below? East Face/direct start variation, Fixe glue in bolts Couple random 5 piece halfway up-- probably for Excess Old drop in bolts trough overhang-- old aid route? Does this continue up to link into something? Holy Devotion, single pitch to chains Above Holy Devotion-- line of glue ins, but several old bolts are visible next to each new glue in, making me believe that this existed long before Holy Devotion; what is this route?
On the north face of the Monk, there is a ledge halfway up with an old anchor; is this for the Monk's Ass? There are a few 5 piece bolts leading left and up from this anchor into the line of glue ins above Holy Devotion. Does the Monk's Ass go straight up from the old anchor, or wrap around the arete to the bolts?
Somewhere on the east face is the route Excess, as listed in the guidebook. This sounds like it goes up between the East Face and the mystery glue ins.
I would appreciate any info that would clarify what I found up there.
