I love how people are like "There is no climbing in the DC area. It sucks here." And then proceed to drop the names of like 30 crags within a day or weekend trips drive. There is a lifetime's worth of climbing within 5 hours of DC and plenty of it is damn good.

You missed the "looking for good places to sport climb" part of the post. If you are a bolt man, you are in a climbing desert. Besides the furnace, where are the good sport routes local to DC? For future reader's reference.

Goddammit I still can’t get over the loss of Nelson Rocks.  A decade ago it was phenomenal sport routes (at least for this neck of the woods), on beautiful fins.  Now it’s a f-ing Via Ferrata and guided toperoping ffs.  Hit the link for a picture of someone climbing with fingerless gloves ferchrissakes.

It also was once home to The greatest disclaimer ever written

“The Preserve does not provide rangers or security personnel. The other people in the preserve, including other visitors, our employees, agents, and guests, and anyone else who might sneak in, may be stupid, reckless, or otherwise dangerous. They may be mentally ill, criminally insane, drunk, using illegal drugs and/or armed with deadly weapons and ready to use them. We aren't necessarily going to do anything about it. We refuse to take responsibility.”
