Quickdraws stolen off Shinto Wall at Ten Sleep

OP,

I did some quick research for you. About 90% of the naysayers are 5.8 trad climbers.

Projecting 5.12 or even 5.13 is completely un-relatable to some of these helmet heroes.

Is it safe to assume it was lead, but the partner couldn't climb it and the original leader couldn't lead it again and had to bail? I saw this on a climb in Spearfish Canyon. Fortunately, unless someone is projecting a 5.9, I won't have to face any ethical dilemmas.

I do this, and it is pretty common. I'll take the lower draws off, especially if the climbing is easy there, so that some gumby does not booty them.

Ah, I didn't know that climbing a bigger number means you get to act like you own the place. Clean up your toys when you're done playing or else you go into timeout.

Just for clarification Mr. Greg. Do you think Tommy and Kevin made a royal mess of the Dawn Wall? Ropes and gear all over the place?

If Hobo Greg had any true convictions about cleaning up gear he would have made a statement during the dawn wall saga.

We should have seen some crusty shadowy figure slowly jugging up the lines in the rear and jettisoning gear off the wall into a well placed loot sack on the valley floor.

It's really a shame about your 13 missing draws, but threatening and calling out the perpetrator as a shit person isn't taking the high road or likely to get your cherished draws returned. As distasteful as it may be, offering a reward or some beer for their return would be more effective. Offering to pay shipping is a good start. Unfortunately, the issue of leaving draws in place on a project is not a new concern and has been debated ad nauseam on Mountain Project, Supertopo, etc. If you don't want to lose your gear... "clean up your toys, Will!

Is this an appropriate place to drop “whomp whomp”?

Literally anyone who knows this dude can confirm. All of you people spraying about your 6 month old ethical convictions are such a bunch of limp pricks it's hilarious.

I'd guess that close to 100% of the people taking the draws can climb the routes they're taking the draws from, for obvious reasons.

It’s like a victory whip except instead of a lighthearted exultant celebration they leave with your cold hard draws?

It's pretty funny that several people have liked Vas's posts when he is one of MP's resident trolls. Whether he climbs what he says he does is irrelevant; about once a month, he swoops in and talks shit and provokes lots of responses.

Nice work, Vas!

The guy who ended up with them messaged me and let me know he took them by mistake.

How does someone accidentally take 13(thirteen) of someone else's quickdraws off a route?

Sounds like it was a newbie who showed up to a route and thought he found buried treasure of booty, rather than an active mining claim haha. So he didn't accidentally take them but did accidentally steal them, which he owned up to and fixed.

Glad you got yo shit back dude!

This could easily happen if you're in a large group.  Climbers A & B do the project draw climb; Climbers C & D others go off elsewhere.  Then Climbers C & D return to the project draw climb, and when they are finished, clean the route, with the mistaken assumption the draws belonged to Climber A or B.  With a larger crew, these types of mistakes become even more likely.

What most likely happened is that a climber came along and saw the draws and took them.  Then he/she was tipped off to all the postings on the different climbing forums and decided the best course of action was not to keep them but to return them.
