In many ways the Northeast has adopted the same ethic in that department as Scotland. No tools if its not winter. That being said, there are a few dedicated mixed climbing areas around that you could probably get on during the summer but expect some negative feedback.

Makes sense. Guess I'll just have to keep the stoke going until it freezes!

Working the steep ice skills on top rope, right around New years. I remember it being about - 25 when we left the truck!

It was certainly stoke inducing to look around the WG ridge on Sunday and spot some thin ice forming in the back of the dike!

Edit: I've been informed that I committed a grevious error in not photographing said ice, and for that I apologize! I meant to, but I got distracted keeping things square with two followers.

Mabey we should rename this thread or start a new one for the season so it’s easy to find. Mabey “ 2018/2019 East Coast Ice Conditions Thread”.  Stoked for the east coast ice too!!

I fully support the idea of someone starting a new thread with a better title. Sorry about the unwieldy one I gave to this thread. Didn't expect it to have legs.  (Anyone know if we can ask an admin to change it?)

EDIT: Greg gave me directions for editing the title, so I went ahead and did that.

You can just edit it, good thread btw.

found this old climbing mag article from the 80s about the malbaie valley, a ‘winter Yosemite’. only 100 miles north of quebec city and a 20 mile skin in. i wonder if it’s closer logistically now.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
