Hi Riley,
Did you and Jonny Schaefer climb Mt Rainier this Summer? If no are you planning to do it in September? If the latter is the case, please let me know.
Thanks!

Hi Riley, I was thinking DC Route. I am looking for partners for September 21- September 29. I have hiked five 14ers in Colorado, done Owen Spalding Route at the Tetons, done a lot of hiking, backcountry camping, and rock climbing, indoors and outdoors, 5.10. Have you ever done glacier travel?

Hi Riley and Angelb, Riley, I want to attempt to summit Mt. Rainier on September of this year. I had plans with a couple of friends but they bailed out on me. Anyway, live goes on and I want to find partners who are interested in accomplishing this. Angebl, it's great you have experience traveling glaciers, I have some experience too from when I went to The Tetons, but it has been more than five years ago. However, I have been training a lot and I think that I am in a very good physical condition to attempt to summit Mt. Rainier. Guys, if you are serious about trying to summit Mt. Rainier, then let's make plans.

Hi Insert name, I want to attempt to summit Mt. Rainier between Sept 21- Sept 29 of this month. I want to try to do it in two days, but I'm open to taking longer if anyone needs acclimatization. I am serious about this so details will be posted here. After anyone who is interested post that he/she will definitely join the group, then we can send personal messages. This is for safety reasons as some young climbers could be interested in doing this, and I want their families to have access to general information.

Angelb, it's so great you are in!!! And same as you, I prefer to attempt to summit Mt, Rainier on a weekday. Let's give it a day to see if Riley or Insert name want to join us. If we don't hear from them, then we exchange personal messages to share personal information, set the dates, set the arrangements for rental equipment. Maybe you are all set regarding equipment, but I have to rent some items. We have to plan were to meet. Maybe we can meet in Seattle and split a car rental cost. I could do the driving to Mt Rainier, or we could take turns. September 21st is practically around the corner, so we have to cover all the basics. So each of us, let's start a list of what we consider essential to accomplish summitting Mt. Rainier, and then we can condense both lists into a single one.

Just as a heads up, a late September ascent can really reduce the likelihood of success on Rainier. Weather and route conditions can be relatively adverse, especially for a first shot at the peak. If folks are going to plan a year out and fly in, you all may want to consider going up in the “prime” season.

Hi Chris,
Thanks for your feedback, I'll keep it in mind. How much time does it take to get the permits and registration at the ranger station?

a late September ascent can really reduce the likelihood of success on Rainier I second this statement! You should take the time to read through the 2019 entries of the Rainier Rangers' blog:

How much time does it take to get the permits and registration at the ranger station? If you can get your permit in advance, do that. My group couldn't get an advance permit for Emmons-Winthrop this past June, so we camped overnight at the White River ranger station two days before the climb to be first in line for walk-up permits the day before our scheduled start. Had we not been there when the station opened it is likely we would not have gotten a permit.

Hi Luke,
I already read the mountaneeringclimbing blog, but thanks anyway. About the permits, i am doing the payments at home, but there is a permit that climbers have to get at one of the range stations or at the Visitors Center.

Sorry, I wasn't clear. When I said "advance permit" I should have explained that is the Wilderness Camping Permit. So, there are three things that need to happen:
- Everyone pays the "Climbing Recovery Fee", which you can do at home like you mention. Be sure to print the receipts (FAQ). Note that the FAQ states "Each climber must also have a valid photo I.D. at the time they register for their climb" ... I copied every climber's driver's license and brought those with printouts of their recovery fee receipts. That way I could register everyone without all of them being present.
- Apply for a Wilderness Camping Permit for the route and dates you're planning. This is the permit that my group could not get in advance, and why we had to be at the ranger station when it opened a day before our climb started. A camping permit is not needed for car-to-car climbs.
- Finally, you need to get a climbing permit at the ranger station.
Good luck getting a wilderness camping permit in advance!
