Does anyone know why most retailers are clearing their katana laces? Is there a redesign on the way?

Who is "most retailers"? Perusing the usual suspects:

Backcountry: 25% off, along with all Sportiva products
REI: full price
Backcountry Gear: full price
Outdoor Gear Exchange (GearX): full price
Moosejaw: full price
Mountain Gear: 25% off, along with all Sportiva products

If there was a redesign it would have been shown at the Friedrichshafen show which was last week. The Python and Testarossa had redesigns shown, and you can expect them to go on clearance in the fall or winter. Other than the obvious similarity in design, there has been no indication that the Kataki will replace the Katana Lace.

No redesign. Katana Lace stays. Those sales are not indicative of a closeout. Noah is right about the Python and Testarossa updates.

Kataki and Katana lace are quite different, I've owned many pairs of both and I like them for different uses. Katana Lace is more supportive and a better shoe for longer pitches/days. Kataki is more of a utility shoe that can do just about everything really well. Better for bouldering/single-pitch.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
