Carry-on bag with pro

Has anyone ever had any issues at airport security with pro in their carry-on? I'm planning on putting hooks, nut tool, etc. in the checked bag but I'm wondering more about stoppers, cams, etc.

Thanks! :)

Plan on extra time in the security line, as they will almost certainly pull your bag and go through it by hand.

I used to worry about this, but it seemed pretty chill through a bunch of airports in Canada, the You-Ess and Mexico this fall.  I put my heavy trad rack stuff in my carry-on, basically cams and nuts, and not too much else. Nothing pointy.  Nothing like slings or ropes that you could use to tie somebody up.  No two-way radios. In Mexico, they don't let you carry more than ten AA batteries.

Airlines are getting pretty snotty these days about carryons. Last year in Australia, Fiji airlines wanted to weigh our carry on bags. Uh-oh.... Debbie was hiding around the corner, I would open then up, move some stuff around, bring the bag back to weigh, and disappear. Just as the flight was about to leave, the guy said, "Hey, where are you putting all that extra weight anyway?"

Same dude was at the gate, we were worried he'd weigh the bags again there!

Probably deepens on where.  I've taken a double-triple rack and traveled 40+ times and rarely do they want to unpack the bag.  Agreed I'd still plan a few extra mins though just in case.but its basically a non issue.

Old thread revived from the dead but in Europe I was not allowed to fly with any of my cams or carabiners or even belay devices.

Fortunately I also had a checked bag so i could move my rack to that o/w they told me I was either not flying or leaving it behind.

This was in Switzerland last year.

Only problem I had was by the time I got to TSA with my carry-on the checked bag was gone and I couldn’t get access to it. Amongst all the cams and biners in my carry-on the X-ray didn’t pick up a 4” knife.

What if MP had a FAQ section with pinned threads?

If they can’t use the search function then they probably won’t sift through a pinned FAQ section.

Also it’s free to ask the question 1000 times and hurts no one. I am always confused when people are bothered by this. Like we are going to run out of internets or something.

The search function is pretty hard to find on mobile. It's about 10x more straightforward to start a new thread.

I agree and was stating that it’s odd when a new thread about a rehashed topic bothers people.

Do you mean the MP mobile app or the desktop site on a mobile browser?

If the latter, it's right there in the hamburger menu; if the former, I agree it's hard to find (meaning I couldn't find it - only the route/area search - is there even a forum search function in the app?).

I think the reason it bothers some folks is difference between "I looked and couldn't find the answer, so <rehashed question goes here> vs "I'm too lazy to bother looking for myself" - it's that second form that bugs people.

I booked a flight but I'm playing it safe; shoes and harness only.

Blame me for the thread resurrection. I had done a bunch of climbinh and flying lately so wanted to share my experience.

When you fly with caving and climbing gear, you're perpetually overweight. ;)

It is on the app as well, just buried as hell.

1. Click someone's name

2. hamburger menu in top right

3 and search away.

....but half the time it wont let you "see all results" the first time, you have to search again and then try again.

Many (if not most)  of my friends ONLY use the app, so I always kinda assume I'm the only one that uses the desktop version

I'm old school. If I can avoid using an app, I do so. Even with MP, when I look at it on my phone pocket computer, I'm looking at the desktop site in a browser.

And I absolutely despise typing pretty much anything on a mobile device.

Flying out of Cedar City is a breeze. TSA takes 3 minutes. Everybody here is a gun owner, so once when I had forgotten that I had a couple of 5.56mm brass left in a side pocket nobody freaked out. The woman on the machine asked me to mail them home, but I tossed them in the trash.

Coming home from a big airport,..  now thats another story.
