OR Splitter crack gloves: anyone tried them yet?

After looking at the old and new version side by side, I think the only differences are cosmetic. If they are stickier its likely just because they are cleaner.

Looks like all they did was change the color.

Slight tweak to the loops looks like they have a bit more material there especially at the thumb and a box-x stitch on the velcro, i wonder if they are still using a glue and the stitching is just there to reinforce.

They really should have just used ultrasonic welding to attach the velcro, there's no reason why it can't work. the synthetic leather is just a polyester PU blend (80/20 numbers on their website) this gives it great weldability, just seems like a wasted opportunity. Would also just like to point out it's shitty synthetic leather, the good stuff is made using nylon not polyester.

Well that's not true. When was the last time you spent multiple hours learning about how the manufacturing methods for synthetic leather effects the properties of the product, independent of construction material? Yet more misinformation being spread by Seb.

Also if you want to ultrasonic weld polyester based materials work WAY better...   Nylon is not good for bonding and melt adhesion processes, so you wouldn't be able to execute the current design with a nylon material.

But those changes to the stitching and thumb hole cutting die are good subtle tweaks.

There's more to a synthetic leather construction than just the raw materials involved and i'm certainly no expert in nonwoven textiles but nylon based synthetic leather is the gold standard as can be seen in lorica, polyester makes for a poor choice due to it's relatively poor abrasion resistance it's that simple. They are also using a really high percentage of microfiber in the construction 80% polyester compared to lorica which is a 50% polyamide, 50% PU blend, it's possible that they chose this to get a higher abrasion resistance though i'm doubtful considering the 50/50 blend used in lorica products are used as ppe in motorsports.
All this being said OR don't make the stuff and was probably just sourced from some factory in china and it does the job while keeping costs down.

Ultra sonic and RF welding of nylon works absolutely fine, like literally take 5 seconds to google it, i'll grant PET is easier to work and with but nylon would still weld just fine.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
