In this phenomenal account of what its like to free El Cap in a day, James Lucas says 19 people did it before him, so either Eliot Carlson did do it, or I'm missing someone. Or he just used this list for his essay... |

that guy named seb wrote:When did honnold free el cap?Which time? He has freed a few routes on El Cap 8 times (that I know of) between 2006 and 2014. |

Pete Whittaker rope solo Freerider in 20+ Hours 2016 |
|
Seth Rotul (not sure of his last name spelling) He passed us when I tried the rider in the fall. I ran into his partner and he sent not sure of his time. Dude is a total underground crusher. I found his name on a FFA on Watkinks in the new Sloan book |

Its rather amazing the number of free and FIAD "underground" ascents out there. These kinds of lists will never be anywhere near accurate. |

I do love nerding out on Clint's website and on Sloan's speed section of his website. I also love it when I find out something totally bad ass that no one reports! Its pretty easy for that to happen these days since all that climbing media does to report sends and the like is to repost an instagram post. The level of reporting is pretty piss poor. For example, I've been stuck in NH so when I heard about Pete's FR rope solo I was blown away. Unable to run into him in the valley and be a fan boy and ask him about it I searched for some reporting. I think gripped mag was the only news source to do an actual interview. And alpinist was the only one to report the other two free climbing rope solos of the FR. |
