What happened? Posts are displaying sort of but not chronologically. Things are a bit all over the place.

There’s a small note at the top of that page: “For Sale is sorted by latest topic instead of latest reply.” This helps keep track of new listing instead of replies to old ones, which makes sense in the For Sale forum.

That's a terrible idea and a disservice to both buyers and sellers. It does not make sense for those of us wanting to find items we have previously viewed. It will also disallows as seller's ability to update/revise and bump, adding items or lowering prices. As a seller myself I'll be reposting my for sale thread every time I would bump it.

If that’s the case we’ll switch it back. This was much-requested and worth a try though.

How about the option to sort based on newest thread vs last post?

I agree. There are so many FS posts that new posts will be quickly buried and never brought to the front again. Popular ones should be brought to the top just like any other post. Motivated sellers should be able to bump their posts up rather than have to create brand new posts which will just make for more clutter. When I have new things for sale I try to recycle my old for sale post by adding them rather than creating a brand new post, but this will make that impossible. Having the option would appease those that want them ordered differently, but I think they should be handled like any other post by default.

I absolutely love the change. Even as someone who bumps and has sold and bought tons on here over the years. Please let it stay this way.
At the least, I'd be all for disallowing/reporting bumps that don't lower prices or substantially change the listing

Is there any way to add a search function for the sale thread? This could help solve the issue.

Seriously, this is a nightmare for sellers. As a seller I typically make one thread that I subsequently update many times with new items, new or better photos, lower pricing etc via editing. There is no way to put your listing back on top/page 1 in any event in order to accomplish these things except by creating a new thread. This will mean new threads for every such event. Is that really what you want?

can they add a new button for the thread starter? "post reply" / "post bump"

Another drawback is for those posting WANTED, their post will be seen on page one for a few hours then never resurface.

There needs to be some sort of way to “bump” posts. I do agree that there has been abuse of the old system but having nothing is not the answer. One of the best ways Iv seen implemented on other sites is a timer cooldown on when you can bump your thread. Usually they are around 12 hours but you have to physically be on the site or app to bump it.

Ideally, users would have control over whether they're seeing most recently commented in or most recently posted. I actually like the way it is now, but I can understand other's concerns. I suspect we'll just see people reposting things every day to make sure they rise to the top of the cue.
One problem before was people with overpriced items that aren't selling just "bumping" them all day long and keeping them at the top.

Agreed, however one person's perception of pricing or bumping frequency can vary from another's. So what's a happy medium vs not allowing any post to rise to the top?

Make it sortable and let us decide how to view. Even if you guys were not satisfied with the layout this is by far the worst solution, the most active post on the first page now has only 3 replies while all of the posts that have been active for weeks with 10-20 replies and updates are buried.
This place does not really have much of an issue with 'bumping' but you could require a mandatory price drop or adding a new item if the seller wants to bump.
The people selling gear that others are interested in, who are updating their posts, and answering questions should be at the top. Some shitty Lange ski bag should not be on the first page for over a day like it is now.

You'd be surprised how long a post will stay on the front page now--with the new sorting method stuff is up there for a full day, easily. I personally think it is a big improvement! When I'm looking at what's for sale its a pain in the ass seeing the same thread over and over and over again and having to sort through looking for what is actually new--especially considering the good deals are gone within the first hour or a posts existence and older threads aren't going to have any fantastic prices (usually). It would be ideal if there were a sorting button and you could choose to sort it EITHER WAY. But in the mean time. I like it this way!

dang, i've been bumping my FS thread for almost a week now (with a self-imposed timer of a day or so). my thinking was like that posted here, i was just trying to get the right people to see it. Two of my bumps luckily landed me buyers as having them see it on the homepage seems unlikely.
Now, unless people are specifically searching for whatever random stuff I have, they probably wont see it?
edit, yeah, having it both ways seems ideal to me..

^A bump still receives a red dot, which counts for something. It's easy to scroll through a few pages quickly and see what has been commented on recently.

Some form of bumping is necessary.
