Looking for an affordable pair of mountaineering boots to get climbing, mens 42 or maybe 42.5.

I'm just looking for something that would be appropriate for California 14ers, and Rainer. It would be ideal if they could get me through a two day snow camp in the Sierras I'm scheduled to do early April, even if they were otherwise too light for winter.

I've been eying Charmoz, Trango S, and Salewa Crow, although I'm not sure if those are ideal choices. Open to suggestions.

Thanks peeps.

I have a pair of La Sportiva Trango Extreme EVO GTX "Silver Bullets" in size 44.0 for $225 including shipping. Excellent shape.

The crow is not warm enough to be anything but a mid July Rainier boot in good weather.  I love mine for non big mtn mountaineering though.    If I use them in deep winter I often have to hike with my belay parka on to keep from getting frostbite.

I have a pair of Spantiks that I’d like to find a new home for? Size 42

Justin - I've got a pair of La Sportiva Trango S EVO Gtx Mountaineering Boots that need a new home! EUR size 42, same specs as described here.

Well loved, but still very functional. In need of a new toe box sometime soon but still waterproof and structurally sound. To me, they seem like a great fit for your upcoming Sierra adventures. Asking for $100

Those look great. Probably a bit big for me though.

Understood. I'm just getting up to speed on all this so all the boots looked warm AF to me! I can get a decent deal on Salewa though. I'm wondering which boot would be a little warmer, without being full on Winter? I don't really see myself doing winter climbs at any altitude yet.

Thanks everyone.

I ended up with a pair of eBay Lowa Mountain Experts which are nice all around, insulated boots that take crampons. Unfortunately they're too small so I'm getting by with them just for now but looking for something long term.

Anybody know how warm (or not) the Charmoz are? Still aiming for Cali 14ers and Rainer (Summer).

Not totally sure, you might email salewea and ask what the recommend.  It looks like the vultur vertical is their only insulated boot.

You don't really need a mountaineering boot for California 14ers in the summer. Maybe you meant just Rainier in the summer?

Right. Something that could cover all those bases and not need multiple pairs of mountaineering boots. Although, that's always the pipe dream isn't it? Having one pair of shoes for all tasks.
