I use 8mm maillion rapides for canyoneering.

Depends, is it a Petzl Maillon Rapide? If so those things are truck. I use them with my Petzl fifi for retrieving my haul bag when I'm soloing. They end up holding the entire weight of the haul bag plus the extra tension pressure that comes when the bags get stuck.

According to Petzl's stats, they're 25kn major axis /10kn minor axis in strength.

If they're not Petzl then who knows.

Petzl says the Maillon Rapide N°5 "Attaches to FIFI slot in order to connect to a lanyard" so, not sure using them for rap anchors is the best -- or safest -- application for them. I'll let others with more knowledge about such things chime in, however.

Biggest problem with using them for a rap anchor is going to be their rather thin width. I don't have mine in front of me but I believe that you'd have difficulty running anything thicker than sporty dental floss through them.

Thanks everyone. Hopefully the store will refund me or I can go through paypal since this was not what was on my order.

Here are some additional pics if interested. A newer 9.5 rope does seem to fit fine, but throw in webbing or cord and gonna be tight to pull the rope! Plus it definitively says WLL 280kg, not too confidence inspiring.

For the most part, they look legit judging by other pics on the Internet. But, if you can send them back and get a refund you might as well do it.

As far as an exchange for the GOs, just know that the GO will be longer and thinner so, if you want something for rap anchors then, consider another link altogether.

Thanks, I did not realize this, first time buying quick links. Normally I use old biners or rated rap rings.

Is this your use case, Kevin?

You talked about it in this MP Topic: https://www.mountainproject.com/forum/topic/108326955/petzl-fifi-hook-for-haul-bag-retrieval

The pic does say P49100, which is the reference number on the MAILLON RAPIDE N° 5 over at Petzl and listed on the bag, at least.

Yup. I've been waiting for either the fifi or the maillion to break for many years now and it seems so much more truck than its size would tend to indicate. But i've had the bags get stuck under a flake while bouncing the haul line with my 2:1 and neither one (or the flake darn it) have broken.

There is a large difference between SWW and breaking strength.

Typically a qwick link with a sww of 280 kg would have a breaking strenght of 1400 kg or 5X the sww

100 kg is equal to almost 1kN so you're looking at a little over 2.5kN for working load limit. Depending on the SWL ratio, you may be fine for something like a rap anchor, but since you have the option to return it, I wouldn't risk it.

Maillion Rapide are made by an independent company and manufacturer located in France called Peguet. http://www.peguet.fr/ you can find WLL information and breaking strength info on their site for the size you have.

Petzl distributes a few of Maillion Rapide’s products. Many other climbing, safety, and marine companies also distribute Maillion Rapide connector links including Fixe here in the US.

Easy to find authentic Maillion Rapide product from many good suppliers in the US. Prices vary quite a bit between the many distributors but all Maillion Rapide brand links come from Peguet in France.  Shop around.

Sorry my typing SWW instead of SWL my bad. As far as I know no climbing gear is rated for SWL just breaking strength.

This is correct for all MR quick links. If my math is correct, 1400 kg is equivalent to 13.7 kN. Those are actually stronger than the crappy rolled aluminum descending rings from SMC.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
