Hi all,

I'm on a long trip through South America with my non-climber girlfriend and trying to get in a few days of climbing in here and there. We are in Mendoza Argentina now and headed east to Buenos Aires in the next few days. After the holidays we'll be in Patagonia and the Lakes District until mid-February. I'm interested in climbing around Mendoza this weekend, Los Gigantes near Cordoba in the next few days and somewhere near BA from Dec 19th to Dec 31st. She'll head home in mid-February and I'll stay for a few more weeks to climb more around Cochamo and the Frey. I have only my harness, shoes and helmet with me but bring lots of climbing experience and some Spanish. I lead sport and trad up to around 5.10 or 6b but more than happy to be a reliable belay/second since I haven't been climbing much lately. If anyone is interested in climbing during this time frame in any of these areas or nearby please let me know!

Cheers!

Hi Eric: I lived in PDX for about 10 years before moving to eastern WA in 2008. I have to admit that we certainly miss Portland, and plan to move back eventually.

My wife and I will be in Frey in early January (probably 4-9th, or so) before heading south to Chalten until Jan 17, and then on to trekking in Paine. My wife & I will probably climb 5.8-5.10a in Frey, but I would certainly like to find a partner for an easy climb in Chalten (Austrianca?). If it is just the two of us, we will probably just do something like Cerro Solo or Electrico, or Mojon Rojo. We will have a decent rack and ropes with us. If those time frames would work for you, let me know.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Hi Lane, thanks for getting in touch. Here's some more details about our timeline. We're headed to Puerto Madryn and Peninsula Valdes (Jan 1st-6th) after Buneos Aires and then on to Torres del Paine for our W reservations from Jan 14th-17th. In between Jan 6th and 14th we'll be busing south. Possibly we would stop in El Chalten or El Calafate on the way down but not sure if that logistically makes sense. The current plan is to make those stops on our way north after Torres del Paine so we're not rushed. If you have any insights as to the ease of travel between these locations and/or think it's still possible to meet up given these hard dates, send me a PM.

Enjoy your travels and climb safe!

Hey Eric. We may be just out of synch. We are doing the “O” in Paine leaving on Jan 17. (Had to work for 2 months to finally get that scheduled. We will be in Frey from Jan 4-10, or so, then a brief stop in Chalten on the way to Paine.

Have fun, and let me know if you are nearby anytime.

Cheers,

Lane
