Swell brand work really well. amazing it keeps ice solid for 2 days. And hot liquids for 24 hours. Trick... pour boiling water in the thermos swirl around to heat the metal and dump before adding your beverage of choice. They come in wide mouth but the bottle style pours nicely and is leak proof  up to 750mL

Exactly just like a cooler operating better with a pre chill. Putting some boiling water in whichever thermos you use while you make your bevage of choice is CLUTCH.

I have the hydroflask 18oz food thermos and as others have mentioned, i  am disappointed with its heat retention as well.

A good cooler trick is to place a small block of dry ice under your water ice to keep it totally frozen for a few extra days and delays the inevitable melt and drain cycle.

It’s sounds weird but I’m obsessed with thermos and effeciencies. Thermos Nissan are the best that I’ve tested. I have one that is nearly 15 years old and has gone with me ice fishing, fly fishing, ice climbing, even alpine stuff. You can get them for cheap as well as I bought a small one a few years back. Worst thermos I’ve found? Primus. Their stoves are awesome but terribl thermos. Went from near boiling to 110 degrees in less than 4 hrs in 65 degree indoor temps.

Alan are Thermos and Thermos Nissan the same thing?

Thermos Nissan and a thermos are different. Nissan is a brand of thermos. As is Primus thermos. And as mentioned above Thermos with “T” not “t” is also a brand name I believe. Like Kleenex is a brand of tissue. But often they are just referred to as Kleenex.

  • Scott’s right John. Thermos makes a bunch of products but their thermos Nissan is the best I’ve tested.

My Stanley coffee mug is great. Heavy, but okay for bringing to the crag. Keeps stuff warm forever, durable and doesn't leak.

I've used various models including the Nissan, but the Zoji is better.  Heat retention is better, safety lock on flip-up lid is better (the Nissan ones all eventually break), and the top and the Zoji gasket configuration makes it easier to clean and keep free of mold.

Vote corkcicle here’s the scoop we did a little experiment with corkcicle and hydro flask

32oz ea filled the boiled water add chocolate had then exposed outside set in snow overnight temps drop to -5 f   Exposed for 6 hrs the hydro flask was still nice and hot and drinkable the corkcicle was still to hot to drink so for heat retention go with corkcicle  also never had one leak

...have had the opposite experience. While I've never gone in with the intent of experimentation, my girlfriend has a Corkcickle and I a Hydroflask. For the same interior volume, her Corkcickle is overall larger and bulkier than my hydroflask and doesn't keep things as hot for as long. But hers does have the nifty 'quiet'  rubber bottom and fancy cocktail shaker shape, which, clearly is important.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
