Renting a car is your best option for RR. It's a ways from the campground to the climbing, even further from Vegas to the climbing. If you want it for free, well, you get what you pay for!

Looks like it will be a 19 mile walk from McCarran to the Red Rock Visitor Center. Only about 6.5 hours. EDIT TO ADD: The original title to this thread was "Getting from the airport to red rock BY FOOT". That's why I provided this information. Then the title got changed for some reason...

you can ride the bus to within 5 miles of the gate, so about 3.5m to the campground. where you get off the bus at, is the (Albertsons @ Charleston Blvd. & Desert Foothills)) shopping center that is the closest to the park. you might get lucky and be able to hitch a ride or find a partner...

I have walked from the airport to the strip, its not too bad. People usually won't pick up a hitcher at the airport. I would walk to the strip then chuck up your thumb and see what happens. Problem is that Vegas is a town where everyone is looking to make a buck.

RTC shows the last stop on Charleston at Red Rock Casino. Suggestion: From the aiport find Route 109 which takes you to the downtown transfer station. From there get on Route 206 and it'll drop you off at Red Rock Casino. Walk west from there (5 miles). https://www.rtcsnv.com/transit/routes-maps-schedules/

A friend and I did something similar a few years back. We found a partner on here for some moderate trad stuff and they were kind enough to pick us up at the edge of town / drop us off at the campground at the end of the say.obviously need to line up the timing but might be worth looking into

Why would you give up climbing or hiking time dealing with the pain of finding a free way to get there? There was a thread earlier this year about using Uber of Lyft to get to/from RR. That seems a saner option.

He doesn't have the credit or credit card to rent a car.

There is so much traffic out that way, if you get to Red Rock Casino, walk across the freeway towards RR and if you can wear a clean shirt and not smell like a dirt bag climber, SOMEBODY will pick you up and drop you off at the gate. Keep a clean shirt on hand for the ride back.
