stoned parking

Sorry to disappoint anyone with the topic title, but was wondering 2 things:

1) Can anyone get the BLM to remove the stones at The Ledger parking area?  The hike in from Willow stinks.

2) Saw a ton of cars parked illegally at 2nd pullout on Sunday. Wondering if anyone who parked by the stones was ticketed?

1. I'm sure the BLM will hop right on that request, you know, kinda like how the hike from the highway "stinks" to get to the base of Mt. Wilson via the old campground road?

2. Chances are that the variability of enforcement will result in no hard-and-fasts for the near future, and any hard-and-fast rules that may be established will be subject to change without warning.  Assume ticketing until and unless proven otherwise by official word.

Just figured with the warmth between SNCC and BLM , as evidenced by Friday's presentation, that this was an easy request. It requires moving 4-5 large stones

I say let it go. If access to that handful of climbs is reduced (and they weren't that popular anyway), then so be it. The park obviously has a vision of people parking only in designated lots, and improving those lots to reduce erosion and increase safety.  That means the walk to the ledger etc. will be longer. And that's ok.

When I spoke to a BLM law enforcement officer last month, he said that it is still legal to park on the road, away from the parking lots, so long as the area is not specifically signed otherwise. The rocks were put in to prevent damage to vegetation but as long as all four tires are on the pavement you should be good. Take this with a grain of salt as I've seen the SNCC deliver contradictory information (stating that this is not true) so some clarification is certainly in order.

I personally think that the rocks on the shoulder are a pretty serious safety hazard and that the suggestion to continue parking on the road is crazy. The road needs to be widened and striped to accommodate two complete one-way lanes, in my opinion. The Ledger is a perfect example of why these informal pullouts are useful. What are people to do if they want to pull over and snap a picture now? Block traffic?

Definitely a step backwards!

Speaking of “stoned parking... This rather selfish climber occupied 3 spots in an otherwise full Second Pullout on a Saturday morning...

...but climbers are a creative bunch:

Does the BLM ever have cars like this towed? (provided the driver wasn't just sitting in the van) This van is blatantly blocking in other cars.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
