Two cents - I accidentally ordered a men's XS BD cold forge. Was going to return it - now its my favorite no-bullshit puffy. http://www.blackdiamondequipment.com/en_US/mens-insulation/cold-forge-down-hoody-APC4L5_cfg.html#start=12

-It's super warm AND it covers your ass if you're short

-It's pretty light

-It has a nice hood

Cons are that it is NOT a good looking jacket. It you want your lady to look hot in her new puff, this is not the jacket for you. It makes me look like the stay-puff marshmellow man. I was accidentally wearing it when I got engaged and MAN I WISH I NUTTED UP AND WASN'T SO GODDAMN COLD ALL THE TIME.

Ya a parka will usually cover some of your butt at the very least, it will be bulky and warm though.

Also, the Rab micro light is NOT what you want. That is a lightweight down jacket.

I wasn't suggesting microlight, I have, and recommended, Neutrino Endurance, that is Rab's warmest jacket.

Buy a men’s jacket in the appropriate size. My wife has experienced similar frustrations, as there appears to be less expedition caliber women’s options. Better yet, find an older used jacket from reputable brand (WM, feather friends, pre 2000 TNF, etc) and give it some TLC. The down in those jackets can last a lifetime. The new stuff from all the major brands (marmot, MHW, etc) is garbage in my opinion.

Rab's Positron comes in a women's specific fit, and it is warmer than the Neutrino with box baffles in the torso and hood. Normally $400, you can find it right now for under $300 in various sizes if you look around a bit.

Another option that is also box baffled but has a lighter shell is the MEC Hot Cocoa. https://www.mec.ca/en/product/5037-101/Hot-Cocoa-Parka

$300 CAD shipped to US is about $233 USD

It's not an aesthetic jacket, but it is certainly quite warm. Feathered friends makes the best stuff, it's excellent quality.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
