Does anyone know what the current status is for access to Castle Rock State Park? Is there access to the main parking lot off Hwy 35, coming from the north? Looking at the Caltrans website and Google Maps, it appears that Hwy 35 south of the Hwy 9 junction all the way to Las Cumbres Rd is closed.. Thanks!
"Due to the catastrophic failure of Skyline Boulevard (Highway 35) south of the Castle Rock main lot, visitors cannot access the park from Black Road, Summit Road, or Bear Creek Road. It is still possible to access the Castle Rock main lot from Highway 9, Alpine Road, Page Mill Road and other points north of Castle Rock State Park on Skyline Boulevard (Highway 35). There is no estimate as to when this road will be repaired. "
That message on the park website is old. It refers to the stretch of CA-35 south of Las Cumbres that washed out this winter. What Caltrans and Google Maps are now showing is a closure on CA-35 going north all the way to CA-9.
I was there today. I came in from the North, on 9 through Saratoga and then 35. I didn't have any access problems (other than a bit of a wait due to road construction on 9).
