I'm new to climbing in Clear Creek and am looking for the names of sport crags that are south facing so I can be outdoors this fall! Thank you all!!

It is all in the guidebook so go buy that and support the author. Also basically everything on the north side of the road. The sun angle is going to get lower and lower though as the months go on.

Get the Kevin Capps and *Matt Lloyd book for CCC, it's the best for that area. I imagine buying it is pretty easy but if not just contact Kevin through Denver Mountain Guides. *Edit: originally put Jason Haas, these guys get around so much it's hard to keep track.

Off the top of my head: the Red Slab, Highlander (watch for falcon closure), Catslab, Dog House,Cats vs. Dogs, and Other Critters.

Not in Clear Creek, but nearby North Table has excellent sun in the winter.

faye marshall wrote:really wish they would update this book!! tons of areas not in there....regretting purchase as MP had better info....which is rather sad. Writing a guide book is hard work and doesn't pay well. And I know Jason has been busy with other projects. Maybe Kevin too. I think it's great that people are still putting up lots of routes and these are on MP. Not sad at all. The Capps/Haas guide is still the best, unless Faye wants to stop whining and publish one herself? FWIW, I'd also love another edition! Just not up to the challenge... For the OP- Highwire gets sun in the morning. Catslab will start going into the shade more as the sun angle decreases. Get there soon if you want warmth. Cats and Dogs and Other Critters are nearby and higher up, so sunnier. Creekside should get some sun during the day. Rebel Wall is supposed to be sunny but I haven't climbed there. North Table is good advice, as it's one of the warmest crags around, sometimes a little windy. But it's kind of a love/hate sort of place. Basalt you know.

Hey everyone, yes, the new edition of my Clear Creek guide will be on shelves in the next couple of weeks, second week of November probably/hopefully. Sorry for the delay, with so many new routes going up every week it's hard to know when to call it good. Hope everyone enjoys it!

Kevin: you rock! I bought another book for CCC and it's no where near as great as yours. I'm so glad a new one is coming out. That will be tops on my Christmas list this year. Thank you for your hard work!

Thank you for your hard work! Thanks! There are something like 300 new routes and 45 new walls. A lot of the new walls may only have a few routes on them, but if you are a 5.10-5.12 climber there is going to be a plethora of new classics, including a new wall I was very psyched on developing last spring with 3, 4-star 5.12a's. Also, there are probably over 100 new fun 5.6-5.9's as well, and everything in between.

No one climbs in Clear Creek anymore... it's way too crowded.

John RB, It's easy to avoid the crowds: when you come to a fork in the trail, take it.
