Trango Vergo Recall

You're not providing them anything because they are not required to refund you the cost of the device in the first place. They arnt even required to recall it at all since neither of the two recalls were mandatory recalls imposed by the government. They lose money by giving you a refund because they sold it at dealer cost and they are refunding at retail cost. I'd say they are doing their customers a solid, far beyond what most companies outside of the climbing world would  do.

Hadn't considered the dealer cost to retail cost difference

Any news from Trango on replacements?

So is the refund only for people who received Vergos with the new handle or anyone who owned an original Virgo.  I'm the latter and haven't heard anything

Pretty sure it's only for the former.

Anyone else not give a shit and keep their vergo? I sent mine back for the first recall, but not going to waste my time with this new recall. I've been abusing mine the last couple months with no issue.

Since the first recall wasn't too bad and seemed easily identifiable I kept mine. If I still can, I'll send it in over the winter. Otherwise I'll just hold on to it. I've had the handle get stuck once - jammed in a pack in a checked bag for a flight. Immediately noticeable unpacking it and easy to fix. Flicking the lever after putting someone on belay seems to be enough to ensure it's working (and I tug the rope to test that anyway).

I sent an email to trango about when we could expect to get our vergos back. The reply was fast but they do not have a time lone on when the next batch or Vergos will be ready to send out.

I sent my Vergo back for its second recall and will wait for the replacement. In the meantime, I'm using my trusty Cinch.

Has anyone had any update from Trango? I sent mine in almost two months ago now and haven't received word. Getting pretty tired of asking my partners if I can borrow their GriGri.

Never sent my Vergo back for the second recall. The first issue made sense, the second issue doesn't seem to be an issue really

I only sent mine in because it appeared to be rusting, which is strange because I took great care of it for two weeks and never let  it near moisture.

I reached out to them a couple weeks ago and they said they didn't have an ETA yet for shipping out replacements. They continue to offer to refund the MSRP.

I emailed them today and received the following response.

Hopefully something changes soon. I'm surprised they can't just hand rivet the things and mail them back. I guess I don't understand how it works?

I received the same response a few weeks ago.  This is pretty disappointing for a company trying to win market share from the Gri-Gri. Trango needs to get their act together.

I think they're probably re-engineering the handle and getting it manufactured, although that's only a guess.

Emailed them and they told me they don't have a fix yet so it is indefinite on the return. We are opting for a refund and buying GriGris...

Would also do this but GriGris are too finicky with rope placement for my liking.

What do you mean by rope placement? The angle you have the brake strand at?

If it's not in the right location on the ground  it requires a lot more effort to feed slack.  Belaying normally isn't too difficult, but when I short rope someone and need to dish it out quickly is wen I notice it.  Who knows, could be my technique

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
