At one time on rockclimbing.com it became such an issue that people regularly quoted in their replies in oder to preserve what they were replying to - it was kind of a pain. 

I wouldn't mind seeing a function on MP that prevents editing a post after an hour or so.

Even if you were top-roping, the climber and belayer should be aware enough that there was excessive rope slack in the system.  I can't imagine a scenario where a climber wouldn't notice extra rope slack.  Sounds like both parties may be to blame here.

A few questions:

Was this bomber anchor directly above the route you were climbing?

Did you pendulum swing?  

Did you notice extra slack in the system?

If my partner keeps yelling take when there is no slack, then I give penalty slack.  Seems to make them try harder.
