The "Black Bars" bug should be fixed.  Thanks folks!

(The avatars are not visible on the mobile-sized page, for now.  I might bring them back but not sure.)

  •  These are both useful for seeing how active someone is. Is this a n00b asking about building his first trad rack or someone who's been around awhile and contributed a lot. I think online, since you have little context to judge/evaulate people and posts, they help add context. So you may jump on someone immediately for what appears to be a d umb question but when you see they've been a member for 10 years and have a lot of points, you think a second or two longer and realize maybe their question is different th an you think.

I don't like how you can no longer see who the OP is from the list of threads, only the last poster.

From MP website (not sure of mobile) when I click on topic from home page, it doesn't show me the first original post. I have to go into the Forum topic lists and reclick to see the first post of the thread.

I don't see why time & effort was put into making MP forum worse. The big benefit is so I would stop wasting so much time on forums.

Seeing some weirdness - when I open a thread (either in IE 11 or Safari on my iphone) it opens as page "0 of n", and doesn't show the OP. I there's more than one page, I can click the 'next' button to get to page 1, which shows the OP.

Same here. Started yesterday for me, and happens on both phone and laptop.

Still not liking the "new post indicator" compared to previous, but it is also moot as there is a lag for the site to track what is new? I've been browsing this morning, but when I go back to the latest page it says "new since your last visit: 20 hours ago".

How do you include multiple quotes in one post?

At at this point I hit "quote" "then capture all" cut & paste it back into my previous post!

And it did not transfer the "quote box" so the line of Z's

My one main point  ( lost in my weak use of the changed system )

No one else seems bothered by the inability to click on individual climbing zones in a state with multiple areas.

Like the Nevada section I used to be able to go directly to Mnt Charleston it was in blue, a Seperate link.

In Conneticut too,

there is only the advanced search for NJ?

All good changes take time to appreciate but this seems like a misguided set of changes?

Nick, Can you share with us devoted members, climbers, why these difficulties are being implemented ?

The timing , at the shoulder season when some of us try to make longer range plans is also disconcerting.

Wow, the double spacing is not my device?! Another bug?

Honestly? Points? There is a lot of ego wrapped up in that.

Taking it from the "Whats New" section :

It looks like the "Ken Nichols I climbed everything 1st" school of blowing ones own horn,

It seems to helps spoil a good idea of how to build a reliable quality data base.

I see that it works well for the project ?

all those boulders in NJ need to be documented?

(maybe they would get posted anyway with out the point gamer thing?)

So right keep the points? No please. Stop that madness.

EDIT 21 minutes !

Ko'd by the new system, it took 20 minutes to create this incoherent mess!

I'm so proud

I liked the old format much better.

I spoke with some climbers in Germany this morning,  and three of the four, hate the changes.

as Wolfgang 1st wrote , thanks for making the site so complicated that I'm not going to be coming here anymore!  or a very similar close .

to be frustrated beyond the entertainment value, makes us ( MP community) less not more!

EDIT, 4/4/17

1st I have been roped climbing for 50 years, so that gives me some perspective!

If you wanted to run off all the worthwhile attributes you are doing a good job!

I now Agree with Bob D'Antonio! Giving Points to No0ß over route info from Crusher dinosaurs !

Very respectable, NOT

joined the negative ninnies! These changes suck! When I go back to edit a longer post

it automatically reduces it to one un paragraph'd

Un-readable Wall of Text! Then there is this all in bold or double spaced BS.

I don't like the new format. fields are spaced too far apart and I have to navigate to the first page of a multi page thread instead of going straight to the end.

I feel like the changes you have made now make it ok for me. I think the only thing that I still would like to see is the old paging system so you can select the page from the main thread list. Other than that I think I am ok with the rest of the adjustments now.

Still seem to get the auto notify even when I am not checking it but that isn't as critical to me since I can uncheck it as soon as I make the post.

It would be nice if you could see the previous posts in the thread while writing a comment, which you can currently do with 'quick reply' at the bottom of the page, but not when quoting or editing a reply. I believe in the old system, we were able to see previous posts even when quoting in a reply, but I could be mistaken..

I'm guessing this isn't so easy to implement, so maybe more of a wish list item.. #1 thing for me now is smaller text, less white space, make the page background some shade other than bright white.. (ok that's 3 things)

I am glad to see the changed location of the new indicator though. Still miss the direct page links on the forum listing and if nowhere else, seems like it could be fit in on the thread page itself instead of single page forward and back. I can modify the URL directly to set page=<page I wanted> but it would be handy to not need to. Maybe the server load saved from not having to serve up a bunch of extra pages users click through to get to where they were could then be used to update the visit record more frequently?

Thank you for changing the indicator to the left of a thread title. Thumbs up!

Any chance you'll move the post time stamp to the top? Trying to figure out what is new in a thread is annoying. I have to scroll to the bottom, then back up when I found a new one. For smaller posts I can often see the bottom, but anything with some thought or pictures included pushes it out of view. I'd way prefer that to the join date or points.

^^^ Agreed.  Did I mention how annoying the new location for the date is

Since the change, I can't tell you how many posts I've begun to read, then it sounds familiar, then I scroll down, way down if it is a long post, only find out that it is 2, 3, or even 5 years old

It used to be super quick and easy to locate where I left off.  Not anymore.  Is there an explanation for this?

I can relate but I'm not convinced it's objectively much worse, just different. As in, my eyes are getting used to scanning the dates in their new location.

My vote would be to remove the "Joined" and "Points" fields completely, and move the timestamp to the top next to the location field. This is similar interface to Facebook, which I hear is popular.

Wow this new design looks bad.  I mean it looks bad enough I think you may have found a way for me to spend less time on your site.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
