Im looking at the MM Cadillac as a trad harness. Anybody have any thoughts on the extra gear loop. Is seven over kill? Thanks in advance.

Seven loops? They now have one on the back?

I got mine recently and love it. I got the extra belay loop and it's been great.

If you want to add an extra loop, I see no issue with that. I sometimes wish a had one at the back, but I'm sure it would get in the way at other times (chimneys for example). I also have tied my chalk bag to the back of my harness, but would likely clip it there instead if I had an extra loop. I don't think it's too much, but if it is, you could always remove it.

Mistys are awesome. Lives up to the hype for sure. I don't know if the 7th loop would be worth it...I like the symmetry of even numbers.

The Misty Mountain Harness is a great harness. OK to fall in. Pretty comfortable on hanging stations. Supports OK for rappelling; got to watch the leg adjustments. Extra gear loop is a personal choice. An extra belay loop for big walling would be good. Fish Big Wall Harnesses (no longer made) used to come with 2 loops and a sturdy tail loop.

Big fan. I had them do these mods: - seventh gear loop: handy for water and jacket. I don't like packs. - two belay loops: overkill except for aid. They're burly nylon. - fixed leg loops: great, I don't do ice - single quick adjust waist buckle: good, keeps the weight down. It's comfortable for hanging belays and big whips. I do a fair amount of wide so I tape my tie-in points to guard against abrasion.

What about 8 loops? Wouldn't 8 be better than 7? Too lazy to count the loops on my MM Cadillac. Suspect there must be at least 9 or 10 though. Seriously, when you get old and fat, clipping carp off on the back/side loops is difficult. Kind of like being able to just see your feet over your gut....difficult. Regardless, the harness is a star.

IMO i don't get it, it reminds me of the dmm renegade which i also don't get, why do you ever need more than 5 gear loops? Like seriously 5 is the golden number it gives you front loops for pro rear loops for draws and a 5th for belay stuff, i just don't understand how people can justify so many gear loops, even if you are doing aid a chest harness would be a much better option than having so much weight on your harness.

Because some people climb pitches longer than those 15m cliffs in the Peak District and like to have enough gear for that.

Never climbed on grit i mostly climb sea cliffs which are about 60-70m high, i can easily carry a double set of cams, double set of nuts and a dozen quickdraws all on 4 gear loops the issue only is, a grigri, atc, two prussiks, cordellete and what ever other misc crap i'm carrying make 4 gear loops a bit cramped and It means i have to try and remember which side i ended up putting all my crap on, now a single extra gear loop makes the issue of misc tat a non issue but how does 3 extra gear loops make things easier? I just don't get it.

Plenty of room to spread everything out and keep it all organized. Space is good.

But what do you actually put on the lower loop? like seriously wtf are you carrying that requires two extra gear loops to hold.

I like to split up my cams...helps with organization. I'll put the big ones (BD #1+) on one loop and the micros on the other. This helps stack your gear a little more three dimensionally so you don't have to reach as far back behind you.

On the MM Caddy, the middle loops on each side are at the bottom of the harness, whereas the front and rear loops are stitched at the top. That provides an offset. On the front loops I carry nuts, small cams, and tricams. The middle loops take the slings. The rear loops take medium and large cams and hexes, and also belay devices, cordelette, nut tool, gloves, prussik, etc. If I had a rear loop, I'd push some of that to the back. Could I fit it all on four loops? Maybe. But it'd be a cluster fuck. Edit: Let me put it this way, what you told us is that you put a full set of cams, a set of nuts, and 6 draws, on two gear loops? That's a lot of biners per loop.

I mean...people climb with all of their gear on single-loop gear slings, FFS. You can make anything work, the question is: how long are you willing to fiddle around to find gear?

I had a MM Cadillac for a while, and absolutely loved it. Fantastic trad harness, although it's more of an aid/ big wall harness. The Cadillac was MM's big wall oriented harness before the Titan. The 7th gear loop across the back is great, if you happen to be carrying jumars, haul kit, head kit, rap device and your anchoring kit, and want to have an empty loop at each side at the front to park your aiders. If you are pounding out trad pitches, you may find you don't use it. I never found it to get in the way when it wasn't loaded.
