"Its too bad the people running the San Diego rock climbing meetup group are against anchor replacement."

Just curious, why is that?

Dino, thanks for the donation! They provide the expensive hardware to make it happen. We're using all 1/2 inch stainless bolts for all the replacement.

Thanks for your (and everyone else's) hard work on getting fixed anchors upgraded, so people can safely climb these routes.

Lots of routes still need anchor replacement, but it is efforts like this that make a dent.

So many routes in the backcountry are in need of TLC.

As far as the hangers in the picture looking OK, many of these older hangers are time bombs, particularly the Leeper hangers. On one route I lead a few years back, the bolt (hanger) that protected the crux (and would prevent a very long ground fall) just broke in half when the second was cleaning the quick draw.

While they all need replacement, the crux bolt on Father Figure is coming out of its slightly overhanging hole in the wall at a noticeable place. The bolts on satanic mechanic also need replacement, esp the last two.

Thanks for all your labors of love Bob Gaines!! I appreciate the time and work you put into Jtree every winter that I come!

ROCK ON!
Fresh furtive steel is such a peace of mind.

Not to derail the subject but how does one get involved in the volunteer work for these processes?

Cheers and thanks!

Is that corrosion on those Shardik chains?  Hard to tell from pic... I guess there’s some cracks too??

It looks like it's just the paint wearing off, there are no signs of corrosion. It doesn't look like there are any cracks in the chain either, more like an imperfect welding job.

Yea, that's just paint wearing off, they're stainless steel and relatively new, so there wouldn't be any corrosion.

The welds on those stainless rings always look a little rough, and that looks pretty standard. They're rated at 10,000 lbs even with the funky looking weld.

It's hard to tell by the photo, but there does appear to be two small cracks in the chain link? It shouldn't look like that.

Girls in the Mist at the Negropolis could use a re-bolt.

I'll put it on the list.
