There are a bunch of tough peaks in the Andes and Himalayas that have a much less significant price tag than K2! Altitude Junkies run trips on Cholatse ($7,500) and Huantsan ($3,500).

I evaded a peace officer. Apparently that is a Felony, my excuse was that I didn't want them to kill me. I really actually did though, I walked right up to their guns and told them to shoot me.

Thanks Chris. Yeah I've been down to South America a few times. It's just something about K2. I think it was the first big mountain I ever read about when I started climbing, and that allure has never gone away. And that ridge! Oh my it's like looking at a finely chiseled set of abs and pecs :):). You just want to climb all over it!

Everest is only like 14000 for permits. The only problem is that if you climb Cholatse instead, you still haven't climbed K2. I would rather go and climb kanchenjunga than K2 just to see the giant Avalanches as well as the adventure.

Sounds like you're just going to have to get over to K2 then!

She would never get across the river, and if she does she had better pray that she can get back across it on the way home. You would want to cross it right in the dead of winter when it is at its lowest.

Yes, apparently I do! Anyone wanna come with??

Actually there is a line on cholatse that would be totally rad to do. It may even satiate my addiction, for a while. There's also Towache right next to it and that has a wild looking overhanging buttress on it that I think is unclimbed. It's right off the approach trek to Everest. You could stay in tea houses and climb it. No base camp even needed. Of course, the north face of Melanphulong is also unclimbed. And it's beautiful.

Okay, I'm obsessing. I should go to bed.

Are you fucking for reals? Don't make me embarrass the shit out of you.

For starters...who actually uses the word expedition now? What, do you think your part of the royal geographic society or something? It's a climbing trip you asshat. To call it an expedition is basically believing that what you do actually has some value to the rest of society. It doesn't.

Second, REI?? I wouldn't even know where to find one, but apparently you do. So I should ask, how many times have you bought something from REI?? Even if someone did shop at REI, that has no bearing on their actual climbing ability.

Third, fourth, And every other number....holy crazy stereotyping Batman!

Please please please let me run into this guy at a base camp somewhere. Not only will I drink your ass under the table, but the next morning I will hump a heavier load up higher and more technical terrain...you sniveling pompous ass

That degenerated quickly. I came here looking for a 12 step program to help Quit alpine climbing, maybe like a halfway house where you do like a bit of sunny skiing and cragging, cold turkey could be dangerous. I think i also need a 12 step program to quit the toxic climbing forums. And another 12 step program to stop huffing sawdust. Definitely at rock bottom, ive got some real work to do. Any help out there? Trying to put some faith in that higher power.

I don't know. Chapelpondgirl's post kind of feels like a troll. Are you planning on doing Seas of Dreams as your first El Cap route?

Having said that, I say do what you want. It's your dime and your life. I think what others are trying to suggest is that if you're new to 8000 m peaks (seems like kind of a small group), you'll want to maximize your chances of success by testing the waters elsewhere. Still, even if you make it there and totally get shut down, it will still be a great adventure.

As an alpine addict, I can say that it isn't really an option to quit. I self-medicate by spending all of my vacation time freezing cold, tired and in mortal danger. I prefer to suffer while wearing neon Gore-Tex.

K2 is kinda big ... probably will require more than just 12 steps.

ChapelPond Girl · · Keene, NY · Joined Oct 2016 · Points: 230

Lol. You guys actually think I am serious about going? I barely have enough money to buy a new puffy jacket. No, I was just daydreaming and basically saying IF I COULD

But in all seriousness, I really have no serious interest in going back to extreme altitude. I like technical climbing, and that is kind of hindered for normal people like me way up there.

You can't deny me the purity of the vision though!

As for stormweenie, you guys are probably right. Massive troll, and I bit. Does that make me troll fodder? :(
