Hello Eldo Friends:

Eldorado Canyon State Park will offer a stone wall training course this fall. The dates are 8/28, 9/4, 9/11, and 9/18, and the class will run from 9am - 1pm each day. The first three classes will cover techniques, tools, and tips for good stone wall building, and the 9/18 class will run in conjunction with a Reel Rock/Boulder Climbing Community volunteer day.

IMHO, it's a great place to learn stone work. Good rock, experienced instructors, unbelievable views, and the best climbing community in the world (you'll hear "thank you" a lot around here.)

Hope to see you there, PM me with questions.

This time around, there will be some guest instructors as well. Should be pretty cool.

If you participate in these trainings, there will be ample opportunities to do stone wall work throughout the fall. It could be a pretty nice way to earn a volunteer pass. And maybe some swag.

How about for someone who's only been in the gym for a week? Is it too advanced of a thing?

This isn't rock climbing he's offering.

Mike do the classes on are 8/28, 9/4, 9/11, each cover the same skills or will they be different?

Each will cover a different topic. 8/28 focuses on how to build a good foundation for a wall. 9/4 will cover basic principles of wall building. 9/11 will cover a few different types of walls (coursed walls, rubble walls, riprap).

The ultimate goal is some good, self-sufficient wall builders for Eldo. There's a lot of work to be done.

Apologies for an ambiguously titled thread. If nothing else, it's a good chance to meet other climbers and see what goes into maintaining access at climbing areas. I suspect that carrying and placing stones in a wall is good for some kind of climbing fitness.

Thanks, Mike. I'm normally off on Sundays, but work a few of the upcoming ones. How far in advance does one need to RSVP?

Sean:

Up to and including the night before is fine.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
