Climbing all the towers of the Keyboard of the Winds

When climbing Spearhead the view of the towers piercing up through the ridge is enticing and inspiring to say the least. So, I was kind of surprised to find no info on it.

Has anyone here done it or heard of it being done? It's kind of an obvious link-up. I've searched high and low on the internet and in all the guidebooks I could get my hands on (fifteen or so from 1981-2015) and couldn't find any mention of an ascent. If anyone has any of record of it being done I'd love to hear about it.

At any rate, we went for it last week and this is how it turned out for us:

It is a popular moderate adventure for many folks. Ascending from glacier gorge and up the saddle between Pagoda and the keyboards or going via the Glacier Gorge Traverse or a Walk in the Park.

Cool little crags!

Oh no I realize that the Keys are a popular passage. I meant more specifically CLIMBING all of the towers. Not just tagging a few summits or hiking passed them on their backsides.

  • edit* My apologies if I didn't make that clear in the original post.

I think that Bill Alexander may have done all those spires, iirc, quite some time ago.

Did he do all 8 in a day? If you think he may have it would be awesome to hear more about it

Outstanding! Did you do it without a bivy rest?

No we definitely bivied. Our original plan was not to, but after a scouting mission decided that it would be funner (see: more feasible) to sleep a few hours to break up the hiking.

I would message Eli Helmuth if you really want to know. He's knows ALOT about RMNP history.

Sick guys! Adding it to the weekend adventure list.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
