I'm moving to Minot ND and just wanna know where the best and closest place for sport climbing or bouldering is? Or if anyone knows of good climbing in ND. Thanks for your time and answers. Andy

Hey, I'm in Williston. I almost never get out. If you're looking to partner up, i would be interested in heading down to spearfish or Devils tower for long weekends. You can find routes for ND listed in the areas under development, and on the the plus side the number of routes listed for the state has increased about 500% in the last two years (from 2 routes to about 12 routes) and there are rumors of someone making a guidebook for the state.

I haven't bothered to go check out any of the routes listed for ND, but I would guess none of them are worth climbing. To answer your question, the closest 'good' sport climbing to you will be Spearfish at just under 500 miles away. On the plus side, the climbing there is excellent.

Good to see you finding some partners out there Steve! We'll be up in the Western NoDak area next week climbing and establishing new routes if you guys would like to meet up.

As far as nothing being worth climbing, get on this bad boy and tell me it's not a little slice of heaven:

And yes, the rumors about a guidebook are very true. Expect it to be available by Spring of 2017!

I would be interested in meeting up. I could really only do weekends unless you are going to be close to Williston. I wouldn't mind finding out if there is any good bouldering close to me.

Yeah I know it's a weird group of days but I work a funny schedule. The closest to the weekend will be at Square butte Friday afternoon. As for bouldering, Sentinel has a lot with more still to be discovered and There and Crack Again is seriously high quality rock climbing that's only seen one ascent. Go get on it and let me know what you think it's graded yeah?

I'll try it out. Except the description says it's at Square Butte, and that the square Butte location is secret.

Oh I my bad I didn't realize that. I'll bet someone was trying to safe gaurd the FA. Anyway Square is here 46.86791, -103.7024 and There and Crack Again is about 50 yards north northwest of that point sorta tucked away in a small thicket. Happy hunting;)
