The report said he rapped off his ends 20 feet off the ground on a single pitch route. His death was caused by head trauma. Like said above, 20 feet is a survivable height but not if you hit your head. But... who knows, we can only say it might of helped but perhaps he would have passed regardless. Very sad. |

Very sad.I honestly didn't know the details, other than the fact that he rapped off the end of his rope. I generally think of a helmet as protection from 1) falling objects such as rock and ice and 2) striking one's head on the rock during a fall which has been arrested by a rope. I never really considered it as protection from a ground fall, but you're right, 20 feet is survivable and it may have helped. RIP. |
