Condition of Black Velvet road?

Hey everyone. Coming to RR at the end of April and trying to decide what rental car we will need (also trying to save money). In past years we have managed to carefully nurse an economy car back to the Black Velvet parking area, but we've heard that the road has gotten pretty rough. We won't go there every day, but probably twice during our trip. Think we can make it, or should we get something with high clearance? Thanks!

the road is fine, you can take anything back there. I took some micro machine rental hyundai back there a few months ago with no problem. it's no worse than it's ever been.

I would say that a higher clearance vehicle would be better. If you went slow enough anything would probably make it back there, but it would take a long time.

I got a rental car stuck a little ways in on that road years ago. It was a compact and real low to the ground. Not like the wash/road in to Sister Superior in Utah but can still get ya. High clearance just adds a bit of a margin of error to BVC access.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
