Hey heading up to the Adirondacks this weekend and was looking to do the trap dike. However I have been reading some general trip reports that say ice is starting to form at higher elevations. Does anyone know if there is/will be ice on the trap dike? Would that make it unsafe?

Using the point-click forecast from noaa for this weekend it looks like you're probably fine.

I would always bring some form of traction (stabilicers, microspikes, etc) as things can get cold and icy really quick at elevation this time of year. They don't weigh a lot and could be a huge safety net if needed.

I've heard of reports of rime ice only. Go ahead and do it! Just be sure to wait 1-2 days after a rain. I did the trap dike a little less than a month ago so if you have any specific questions feel free to PM me.

It's not yet cold enough (maybe been below freezing a few times) and certainly not cold enough for long enough. I don't think there is even appreciable ice/snow on Mt Washington yet ...

Confirming no snow on Washington.

On the adk high peaks message board people this week were reporting ice around 3800 not necessarily on the trap dike tho but yea it hasn't rained much atleast in the city this week and it is supposed to be reasonably warm on sunday and monday but I just wanted to check

+1 for throwing a pair of Microspikes in your pack. I was up with a group Columbus Day Weekend several years ago and we got turned around on the trail up Algonquin because of extensive verglas. In retrospect, we should have examined the overnight weather and realized that the trail was on a northern exposure...
