Have you placed any of these screws you're deciding on? Have you even bothered the guy behind the counter of REI yet? Don't let discussion dictate what you buy. Experience will enlighten and informed decisions will be made

After using the helix, laser speed and the bd express i would say that there is not much difference. All of them have strengths and weaknesses compared to the other, but they are fairly similar in overall performance. Personally i would buy the one i could get cheapest. If all were equal in price the decision would stand between the helix and petzl speed. I would not recommend the speed light as the only rack for regular ice climbing, but they are great as a second rack, for alpine and to compliment a rack of steel screws. Dont overthink what screw you want. They are all excellent screws, and none of them would be a bad choice.

I've placed BD express screws only to date. That said, I went with Petzl laser speed screws. I like the ability to mix in the laser speed lights for alpine climbs and don't really care about the tarnishing. Plus, I was paying just a little over $40 per screw online, so seemed like a good buy.

Sounds good. You're doing to shit when you see how easy those screws go in. Sorry about being a dick last night.

@Bill - It's the internet, it didn't bother me at all, and I appreciated all your input and testing in the thread. Now just need some ice to climb on.

If you're building a rack, buy or try one of every screw. See what you prefer on lead. Personally, I like grivel 360 the best. Then Petzl, then my old smileys before my BD turbo express. I'm not saying any is better, I'm just saying I don't prefer the BD. but all that said, the BD do rack nice and I can't say u ever bailed or fell because of BD screws. I just prefer the way 360s go in.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
