Just a heads up, came down past lake Haiyaha maybe a week ago descending off of Hallett and the snow was DEEP. With the weather we've had the past couple of days I wouldn't count on it being much better. On the plus side you may not need pads but you'd better bring a shovel!
I've been wanting to come to RMNP for years, and I picked the wrong time of year I guess. Any other places I could go as a backup? I'll be staying in Estes Park Wed (today) -Monday.
Afraid the last few weeks have dumped a ton of snow on the high country, last month you would have been fine in lower chaos or Emerald.
Carter and Horsetooth are both options, but I was at Carter yesterday it was a bit buggy, muddy, and damp. I find HT to be even muddier and buggier than Carter.
Best bet may be Poudre/420s or perhaps early morning/late day for temps in Eldo. Unfortunately you've hit the wettest stretch we've had in a while.
Well, crap. :) Me and the family just rolled into Estes Park, so driving back down to Ft Collins is quit a hike. Ah well. I guess I'll just be hiking this week ... and hanging out at the climbing gym in Estes :)
